Hey guys,

Just testing out my new AIO cooler I got from someone off the MM, so far so good..

The problem im having with my new case + GPU combo :(

I bought the Fractal Design Nano S windowless case, and I have the Zotac mini 6gb GTX 1060..

My problem is, with the low clearance between the PSU and GPU, it is about one CM

So my GPU is a little higher in the temps, but want to know if this is a problem? Is it being starved to much for air or will it be fine..?

The only other thing im considering doing is selling it on and getting a longer, blower style GPU (like the ASUS or such..).

What do you guys think? Am I getting paranoid or is it a legitimate concern?

Hey guys,

Sorry I will try and get photos up sometime soon, but like I said the clearance from the PSU to GPU is around 10mm :(

Just literally played a game of DOOM now, and that my CPU has had time to "bed in" and results are scary

Happy, in fact real happy with my CPU temp peaking at 43c under load in a WARM room, with heating up high! But my GPU has peaked to its power limit or 82c-83c !

Should I look at a blower style GPU? Also will it be worth getting as a step up from a 1060 to a 1070? As I have decided my XBOX 1 will be taking a backseat and my PC becoming my main gaming rig for the foreseeable future..

Cheers dudes and dudettes!

Some ideas:

Increase the GPU fan profile, see if it helps.

Position another fan just behind the GPU to force cool air through GPU and PSU.

Hey Danny,

cheers for the quick response, I will have a tinker at the fan profile..I dont really have the space between the PSU and front because of the AIO fans and then the cables are occupying that space as, because I have added a 3.5" drive to the back of the cable management position, it has used up MOST of the cable management space at the back :(

Oh, and also, I forgot to add to mickyflinn,

I am using MSI AB as I read that link you sent for the Zotac software and apparently a lot of control features have been dropped for the newer versions of the software?

Photos would be handy to see what you're up against. I think the main issue is the length of the GPU, if you had something longer it could grab air from the cable area rather than from directly above the PSU. With the longer GPU and if possible a fan in the bottom you should get pretty decent airflow to the GPU. I assume you have a standard 2x intake 1x exhaust fan set up? The bottom front fan would be quite close to a longer GPU anyway so would give it a decent supply of air. Also when I say a longer GPU it doesn't have to be a blower necessarily, as though these are ideal for exhausting the hot air, they tend to run a bit warmer than open style cards to begin with. Saying that the 1060 is a cool card generally so the FE isn't too bad.

Hey Dave, yes, thats what I was thinking, to grab air from the front bottom rather than PSU. Yes the setup is 2x120mm intake and 1 120mm exhaust.

And another reason like you state aabout the blower is so 95% of the air is expelled to and out the back of the case, not right back into it..

As I am going to get a new "reference style" GPU for Christmas, I wanted to know two things..

1. Am I likely to damage my GPU if it is used for gaming and hitting temps of low 80's because of the starvation factor?

2. Will the prices likely drop a lot between now and then making resale value an issue (I know no one knows for definite, but even just a estimate?).

Decided to get a new gpu asap and glad I am...because..

I checked today to remove my 1060 and there is about 5mm clearance AT BEST between gpu and psu

If the default temp target of 83c is still in place (check in afterburner) then you will be fine as it will reduce clocks to keep to this target. If you are really uncomfortable with the temps then you could reduce the temp target to a number you're happier with. To be honest I wouldn't be too fussed, but of course it's not ideal and hopefully a blower style would be. Etter suited for your case.

hey dave, I think im going for a 1070 blower style now, will make decision tonight / tomorrow and see..but like you said, im a bit uncomfortable with the situation of the case and setup, so will change to a blower style either way (weather 1060 or 1070) i think.

that is true, but tbh, apart from this issue, im loving the case, its a great one, and whisper quiet too.

but i do suppose with a blower style gpu it wont be for long :D

Just a quick update, I received my GPU today, I went for the ASUS TURBO GTX 1060. I know its not what I was originally wanting (GTX 1070) but for 1080p at medium - ultra in games, will be more than capable for me..
