Another one - eBay woes

Did you actually do a re-install of the game to check that it was 100% o.k ??
The below blemish on the disc could be an issue plus it also looks like it might have a circular scratch just inside the outer rim (these types of scratches are the worst as the error correction on the discs cannot normally recover from these type of circular scratchs)

I always thought the buyer had to pay the return post, but it appears not?

Not if it's DOA/Faulty, that would be silly!

None of this matters anyway. All he has to do is send you an empty box and send eBay the receipt for sending it and you're screwed. Don't know why anyone sells stuff through eBay anymore, total waste of time.

Once that return tracking tracks ss being returned ebay will process the credit...you cant just not credit him.

Has anyone actually toyed with the idea that the buyer is genuine?

Tell him you have used a special marker on it of which ebay know about and will check on return.

get it back and inspect and if not in the same condition you sent it out in the have the battle there with ebay but unfortunately being a seller on ebay you have nothing really, not even allowed to leave Negative feedback for a dodgy seller.

That looks like a fingerprint and the "circular scratch" just looks like light reflection on the image. Getting the game back and having a look is the only way

I don't think i'm going to get the same Disc back, all he (the buyer) goes on about is it being faulty and damage.

I guess the marking in the pic, is just the Camera Flash exaggerating it.

Well if it's not installing then it is faulty.
Can someone please explain to me the angle of the buyer if he does indeed return it for a refund???
Other than a lot of wasted time what exactly has he gained?? Where is the scam??

The blemish looks more serious than a finger-print imho, if you look carefully it looks like it extends even to the darker edge/side of the disc, like it's been crushed (A fingerprint wouldn't be visible on the edge of the disc like this)!!

Did you actually do a full re-install of the game to check it was working 100% before selling it??
Just because the game worked after installing it to the HDD doesn't mean ALL sectors on the disc are readable, once installed the disc is just used for verification. A scratched and faulty disc can verify an installed game very happily!!

I think there was an Ebay thread on here a few weeks ago which pretty much summed it up...
Some of the time you will get 95% (i.e. minus fees) of the selling price.
Occasionally you will take a 105% loss, i.e. alleged defective, not worth paying the return postage and out of pocket on the value of the goods, the shipping and your fees.

Ergo take the hit and move on.

I had it a while ago with a Blu-ray where the slip cover supposedly arrived crumpled. No point disputing with the buyer, told them to bin it or give to charity - knowing full well they got a free disc.

You can post all the caveats you like in the listing but bottom line is Ebay will nearly always side with the buyer and just makes the listing look paranoid (even if it is a healthy sentiment).

Post Poo in the letterbox....or like i did...with a person i sold something to over FB...expose them and highlight their shortcomings for all to see....watch them crumble before your eyes! Its marvellous :-)

But agree, i sell on ebay...it riles me to the point i want to drive to their address. Also the stupidity and intelligence of some buyers is non-existant at times. Then you have to replace things for their shortcomings before they kick off and make you suffer through your seller status! Mad world Ebay

My best (worst) story was this one.

A few years ago I was having a massive clearout and listed loads of stuff on Ebay including several copies of windows.

I must be honest and hadnt checked the discs. One of the ones I posted out the guy got in touch and said the disc was all marked and scratched (pics attached)

Fair enough, I hadnt checked or taken a photo so maybe it was. I told him he could send it back and I would refund him in full plus pay for his return postage or if he wanted to try the disc and it worked (the value being mainly in the key afterall) that I would refund him £20 of the £45 cost (afterall he could buy a media disc for less than that).

Guy emailed back that he had tried it and much to his surprise it had worked without issue so I gave him the £20 refund and I though problem solved.

Next thing I see is negative feedback on my Ebay after 100s and 100% positive feedbacks over years and he had sent me an email explaining why.

He said later that day he had been having a a dinner party and had discussed the issue of the disc with he friends and they had all come to the conclusion that I was the worst kind of scammer on Ebay and that I what i did was to advertise stuff as being in good condition and dispatch damaged/poorly look after stuff and then offer partial refunds to keep people quiet which was the only reason I had 100% positive feedback and they had decided that it was his public duty to not let me get away with this anymore and that he should leave me negative feedback to warn off other buyers before I managed to con anybody else on Ebay

I realised then that it was pointless selling stuff on Ebay anymore.

So I just received the following message from the buyer.

I am cancelling the return as I found something out today and I owe you a massive apology. Turns out I installed this game with the internet on Monday when I had the Xbox One and cos the update was massive I stopped it. What I didn't know was I had to delete the game from my console and then install it WITHOUT being on Xbox Live. Once deleted and once I was sure Xbox Live was off it installed in one hour. I understand your anger and I apologise so if you want to leave negative feedback do so but I will leave you good feedback and even mention my shortcomings.

After I accepted the return through eBay, I was informed I would be invoiced £2.99 for a returns label, what now?!
