I've had a brief test of a Dyson v6 and I'm almost sold on getting one.

Before I commit to anything I'm wondering if anyone here owns a cordless vacuum and are there any other brands worth looking at?

It wouldn't be to replace a convention vacuum but it would be great the quickly pick up cat fur and litter!

I got the v6 before the v8 was launched and it's been great! If you can stump up the extra the v8 is probably worth it if you have a bigger house as it's got a better battery, however the v6 can be had for pretty cheap nowadays and I've never struggled for battery life. We've got two cats and a dog and it was always a chore to drag the Henry out, with the Dyson the place gets done most days as it's so convenient!

Tested a V6 for about 5 mins at a friend's house, then bought one. Best house purchase we ever made, the wife loves it.

Cleaning the house is no longer a 20 minute physical chore. We tend do to do it little and often.

Cheers for the responses, I was impressed with the v6 I tested.

I'll probably wait until the January sales now but I'll keep an eye on the outlet too.

I picked up a little Makita Hoover for work as it fits in my tool bag. Missus saw it and pinched it and uses it for dog hair and the kids mess. Great little machine. Hoover was £30 but you'll need a battery and charger. All in less than £100

I have the Gtech AirRam and multi combo, works very well. Has the advantage that they are two separate units with an upright and the hand held, they have twice the battery available for a proper clean. It's also the disadvantage that's its two units and takes up more space in the under stairs cupboard!

I wouldn't go back wired.

We recently got the Dyson V6. Seems decent, takes some getting used to however, so like people have said it will change the way you clean your house... you'll have no choice but to do it little and often as the battery lasts only 20mins (tops) for each 3hr+ charge! This being said, it really is great not to have to drag a comparatively huge and heavy beast out, only to be tethered to a power socket, so I'd definitely recommend it.

Personally got a Bosch Athlet.

No idea if it's better or worse than an equivalent Dyson/AirRam etc. but I know that I got it for less than £130 at John Lewis 12 months ago (sale item plus some discount voucher from memory) and it has been fantastic. Easily the best thing I have purchased in terms of household items.

it claims 60 minutes from a full charge, in reality I can do my house form top to bottom (3 stories/5 bedrooms so not tiny) on a full charge using the middle and top power levels according to what I'm hoovering and by the time I've got to the top floor the battery indicator is flashing, this is realistically about 20 minutes use.

What I can say though is it 100% picks up dirt better than the 2500W "cyclone" Vax thing it replaced. The hose attachment is a bit fiddly to put on, to the point where I don't bother for the stairs but that's my only gripe.

Is the v6 still not 169 at curry's ? Bought one last week and been impressed so far

Dyson eBay shop was selling refurbished ones for £130 too iirc
