How have they managed to get that on? Have they unlocked the bootloader?

No, from what I understand they have the equipment to bypass that.

There are plenty of guides to unlocking the bootloader and installing the official global rom.

When I applied for unlocking permission, it only took a couple of hours for them to authorise my request :)

Ordered my Mi 5 on Monday and still no further updates on it having been dispatched. Order confirmation said overseas orders were processed in 1-2 days so have sent them an email.

Mine took a week to be dispatched. This is maybe when they are loading "fake" ROM on.

The Mi5 I ordered for my wife just arrived today and it has 7.2.8.0.0(MAACNDB) Stable on it. I assume this is a fake ROM? Is there anything wrong with just leaving it on? The phone is only for my wife and as long as it has the play store on it and she can play rubbish games on it she will be happy. Will there be any issues by not flashing? I dont really want to brick the phone if I dont have to!

Hmmmm wish I'd found out about this bug which appears to be affecting the Redmi 3S which makes it might on impossible to get anything higher than "E" for your data connection speed (unless connected by WiFi).

Anyone else having this issue? I just thought id been in poor signal areas but I'm consistently on Edge rather than 3G/H+ in places I know I get these speeds.

A Google of the issue shows its a known bug but no fixes have been offered by Xiaomi as of yet. Bit of a big issue really as whilst I am in WiFi areas most of the time I still need to have a solid non-wifi connection at My disposal and at Edge speeds it just doesn't cut it.

Anyone any experience of this issue? Is it just isolated tobRedmi 3 devices? I don't think it is MIUI version specific as I've read numerous reports of it happening for people on different versions.

It will be fine to use, it just might have some annoying apps on it.

I might be paranoid but I was more worried about hidden spyware etc.. Why else would companies/traders go to the trouble of hacking a rom and forcing it onto a phone thus closing down the ability to update officially?

Are you saying you never get 3G, or 3G is inconsistent? If you're never getting 3G maybe its your APN profiles

It's not to do with APN profiles. Upon further investigating it's quite a widespread bug ATM.

The phone may pick up H+ for a few mins when you turn your phone on but drops down to E and stays there. Doesn't go faster even though I've got another phone which shows 3G and H+ in the same places on the same network.

Some people are reporting having your GPS on will somehow cause your phone to pick H+ back up and others are saying putting a second sim in the phone will trigger it to start working. Not ideal really.

It literally won't budge from E which isn't good, the phone only seems to find 2G network providers when searching so I'm not sure if the issue is with the baseband on the phones but it better get sorted asap. There's no indication over on the Xiaomi forums that it is being addressed though which doesn't fill me with hope.

Found a Mi store in Chengdu after some searching. They are really mirroring the Apple Store feel, wooden table, with display phones on stands. Some of their laptops looked pretty handy for the price.

Picked up a Mi5 64gb for 1799 Yuan. With the pound being in the toilet, I don't think that works out any cheaper? But the people in store were very helpful, flashed it to UK MIUI 8 before I left.
Can't really play with it, as no Play services work here... :(
Seems an awesome bit of kit for the price though. The Mi Max also took my fancy, 1299 Yuan for the cheapest one. Even with my small hands, it seemed like it would be useable.

Edit: OcUK Christmas smileys, the only part of Christmas I enjoy. :D

Looks like the GPS trick does work and the phone will fire up to H+ when in use but I'd much rather not have my GPS on all the time. Chucked in an inactive spare Voda sim i had lying around in the second sim slot and it seems to be working now. Again, not ideal, but better than having GPS on all day.
Should keep it ticking over till a proper fix is found.
