What laptop would give the best performance gaming wise for £600 or less? We spotted this one Toshiba Qosmio X70-A-12W but can the knowledgeable people in here tell me if there are any better options. Also what kind of games would this Toshiba X70 be capable of running? I suppose gtav on minimum settings would be out of the question

This may need moving over to the laptop forum but here's my opinion,

Personally I would look for something that is much newer spec wise, the laptop model you listed looks to be a couple of years old at least and most certainly spec wise, taking into account that it's a 4th gen Intel CPU & a 7 series Nvidia. At the moment you'll want to look into something that has a 6th gen Intel 6700K CPU & a Nvidia GTX 960M GPU.

Gaming wise this laptop probably wouldn't cut it, for your budget I would look at something like the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 but if you can try to increase your budget closer to £800 for a decent gaming laptop as £600 doesn't get you a lot nowadays.

£600 may just get you a second hand / refurbished Dell Inspiron 15 7559 or even a used MSI GE72, keep a look out on eBay for something along the lines of these as you may be able to grab a bargain.

Liam.

Thanks. The laptop you suggested is much better. I will buy that instead. Can't really stretch to 800 right now.

If you're not in a rush, there will be new laptops coming out with the GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti cards in January.

They should get below £600 (at least the non-Ti version with an i5 CPU).

I doubt the 1050 will be below £600 for some time.

I expect more likely £800 to £1000 in reality, especially in the first 3 to 6 months anyway

Well seeing as there was a GTX 1060 laptop going for £854 recently (not a black Friday deal either), I expect the non-ti to be under £600, and maybe the Ti if you catch a deal.

That was a one-off deal on a Medion laptop, the next price up is £1100.

Its hardly a good comparison!

Lets just see when they come out

edit: I'm not against a cheap 1050, I do want one, I'm waiting :) But, I expect to pay over £800 for it

Have just bought an Acer F15 573G 15.6" FHD TN i5 6200U 8GB DDR4 128GB SSD 1TB HDD 4GB GDDR5 950M for £649.99 after spending a long time looking for a 'cheaper' mid range gaming laptop. This appears to fit the bill perfectly for me. I have a decent gaming desktop pc for AAA titles and an Xbox one S. According to the only review I found online it performs 'very' well on older titles giving 'very very' decent fps on high/ultra settings and performs ok on newer demanding titles with lower settings. I won't get my hands on this until Friday evening but will try and post a link to the review.

Ok got the laptop and initially everything seemed ok, sticker shows all the components as the one I ordered, i5 6200U, 8GB DDR4(2x4) etc. Ran cpuz and I have the newer i5 7200U (with Intel HD 620 graphics ) and 1x 8GB 2400 Hynix DDR4 and the MB has 4 memory slots. Gpuz also showed I have the 4GB 950M with GDDR5, so a couple of bonuses so far. Also confirmed 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. Can confirm the keyboard is backlit (bluey white and goes out after no use for about 30secs and comes back on with any key press). This laptop has a very nice black aluminium patterned look which makes it look more expensive in my view. Full title is Aspire F 15 F5-573G-5996 Obsidian Black, oh and it has a slim Dvd-Super Multi DL drive. Loving it so far but have only just set it up the way I want. Off to bed as I just got back from a two week holiday and am very tired. Will try some gaming tomorrow and report back and maybe answer some questions if I can. :)

ok have installed Fallout 4, my favourite game and it wanted to play on low settings, so I ignored that and played on medium and then high which both looked great to be honest and I couldn't see any difference on how it played. If you are worried about heat or noisy fans don't be, warm air comes out the vents but the fan is quiet and hardly noticeable. I even had a fairly hectic attack with many ghouls and had no slowdown, it was very smooth. Quite impressed with how easily this setup performed. Will have a go on ultra next. Cannot fault this laptop yet, well the top, which is aluminium is very cool, literally but loves fingerprints. The bottom, which also looks cool, is plastic.

Hi, well I played Fallout 4 on Ultra settings and ................very smooth also. Had a few hectic battles but no problems whatsoever. I have removed the 1 X 8GB DDR4-2400 Hynix stick and put in 2 X 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2400 sticks. Was having a few random shutdowns (nothing to do with the memory), however ,I updated all the drivers, the cpu ones were for the wrong cpu and then I did the Win 10 Anniversary update, since then I have had no issues.
