So I've got my new build coming in a day or two and I've gone for the above gfx card and I've been reading reviews on everything I've bought at any given opportunity but I'm struggling to find much on this so was just wondering if anyone's had one or knows someone with one and what it's like? Overclockers seem to be the only ones who stock it?

I assume you mean KFA2, not KFAC?

If that is the case you are getting this card?

Since its a reference card, it's going to run hot and be loud. Since it will run hot, your card will have to reduce its clock speed as it approaches the thermal throttle point of 83c. I would imagine this card isn't good value for money as it easily reaches this point, thus reducing clock speed and negatively impacting game performance.

For the price of £249.99 I would recommend

This KFA2 card has much better cooler than the reference card.

If white was preferred (and a very slightly higher clock speed) go for:

Alternatively to both of these is:

A higher clock speed still. Although it is important to remember that most 1060's run above their advertised clock speed in reality. Thermal performance is the important factor as you always want to reduce temperatures (and noise ofcourse) as much as possible.

The bottom line is, I would highly recommend avoiding reference cards for most GPU's. Always go for aftermarket cooling solutions as they basically always perform better.

My apologies for the mis spell. Yes that is the one I'm getting. Unfortunately it is part of the deal I'm getting. It was the only 6gb gfx card available with all the others being 1050s or 1060s. I was on a bit of a budget and got myself i7 non k 16gb ram 256gb ssd and 1tb mech drive built by overclockers for just under 1000 pounds which I thought was pretty good value Plus it's in a small lan case which is perfect as I move around a bit.

I notice in the image of the reference card there seems to be holes available. Is added cooling something I could add myself for a lower price than a whole new gpu?

Also thanks for your advice anyway

Also I'm not bothered about noise as I often use over the ear headphones that cancel out any background noise but temperature obviously is an issue

Get a AIO cooler for the reference card for a few quid. Reference card will throttle due to heat and will sound like a plane taking off due to the crappy fan.

What do you mean by holes available?

Also when you say ordered, do you mean it's on its way? Or still being built. You might be able to ring up overclockers and ask them if a swap was possible.

In the end though, that reference card will probably be able to keep below 83c, but it will be loud. All of what I said means nothing is noise is of no concern, but overclock ability (through GPU boost or manual) and noise are something I always look for personally.

My bad perhaps they aren't but around the fan on that image of the card I've got there are 4 round hole looking things but excuse my lack of knowledge I'm guessing they could be holding the casing on. Yeh I mean maybe I'm not picturing just how loud it's going to be? Highly unlikely to hear it over my background noise reducing headphones surely? And as for overclocking I don't plan to mess around with any of my pc. My previous comp lasted me 6 years and the moment I started tampering with it it all started to go to wrong so I'm staying away from it.

I've got the Asus equivalent and it runs very cool and very quiet. I've yet to see it get anywhere near 80c and I've never heard the fan ramp-up to anything I'd consider noisy or intrusive.

I think I'll just stop panicking until I get it and see how it suits me, I'm not really fussy about most things I don't think slightly louder fan will put me off. Plus I'm such an fps whore I will probably be lowering graphics to keep a constant fps on any new title I get but I'll still monitor the temp but nice to hear some good news about reference cards. I've read nvidia reference cards are a lot better than amd ones.

Yeah it's mostly minor things to worry about. Your GPU will of course perform its task properly. It's really just nitpicking over perhaps a few % performance gain, so really is quite minor overall.

Enjoy your new PC :)

Thanks :) literally just received my shipping email and with my only day off this week being tomorrow my smile is causing my cheeks to ache at the thought of getting it tomorrow.

When my current gpu is a GTX 460 I don't think I should be worrying too much xD

That's fair enough if yours runs well. I was just going off the performance of similarly designed cards.

Such as:

Shows it getting a bit hot

It might in benchmarks and stress-testing, but they're not a realistic representation of the sort of load it'll be under for gaming.

Have you got the ASUS Turbo 1060 version? That what I have and temps and db is very acceptable tbh.

LOL! Im the exact same, I fret over FPS even though it would run fine at like 40+..for me treble figures is a addiction for me

Yep, that's the one. Currently idling at 30c, it's a great card. The LED logo on the side is a nice touch too although I don't have a window so it's fairly pointless; can just see a faint glow through the vents on the side panel though!

Yeah, im idling at similar temps, even in my smallish case. Im currently around 38-42c with heating on, spotify, steam, origins, pokerstars, chrome with a fair few tabs, mail etc..so it does a good job for sure..

and lol regarding the LED, I like looking through my rear fan to see the glow as I have no side window, man I need a life :D

well even if the card throttles stupidly hard because of overheating (which it likely wont) you will notice a huge perfomrnace increase over what you have. dont worry about it and avoid these forums until you get a problem or need some advice. these forums fill me with envy and casued me to start checking my fps lol.
