Is Sony actively leaving 1080 TV / PS4 Pro owners out in the cold ?

Very recently The Last Of Us was updated to version 1.08 and it REMOVED the option for super sampling the resolution on the PS4 Pro for people with 1080 TVs, it now runs at native 1080. This option was available in version 1.07.

The 4K/HDR settings remained unchanged.

Now it seems Digital Foundary and early owners of The Last Guardian have found the same issue.

Neither games give the user the OPTION to choose between framerate, image quality or a compromise of both, the game is dependant on detecting what TV is cennected to the console.

So what are we seeing here? Sony trying to force the PS4 Pro and 4K TVs despite the consoles extra power and neglecting a massive percentage of people with 1080 TVs?

If you bought a Pro expecting to get your money's worth on a 1080p TV I afraid you made a bad purchasing decision.

But besides that, the decision on what options to offer is down to the developer, not Sony.

I cannot get over nearly 2017 and the majority of games still cannot deliver 60fps. This reminds me of the PS3. Next gen baby! Next gen buzzwords flying everywhere yet most games weren't even native 720p. Rinse and repeat present day between some/most games not full resolution nor stable 30 let alone 60fps.

The whole point of the pro is to drive up 4k tv sales, not to give current 1080p owners a better experience

Its hardly stellar performance for those sets.

The change was due to the game dropping frames. Personally I prefer a solid 60fps over supersampling anyway. They added higher quality shadows too although there seems to be some problems with it as shown on Neogaf. I do think they should have left both modes in and given the user the option to choose though. This is nothing to do with pushing 4k TV's, it's down to the developers.

Same thing with the whole framerate debate. It's down to the developers. They know the exact hardware they're working with. If they really want to achieve a locked 30 or 60fps most of the time they can. See MGS 5. Sadly a lot of the time either through poor optimisation/shoddy engines or simply prioritizing other aspects of the game this doesn't happen.

It's still early days yet. Most of these titles have been patched retroactively in a short period of time to take advantage of the pro. I think things will improve as time goes on and games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the additional power.

Only thing in I'm interest in a pro for is VR, not really fussed about 4k although hdr might persuade me once I've seen it in the flesh.

I have to say, whilst Naughty Dog are a good developer in my book, their decision to remove a feature already implemented was a massive mistake, especially on a AAA title. A feature which in my opinion should lie with the user. To take that option away is very restricting.

I just hope that future releases don't just abandon the 1080 users and plough all their effort into 4K when the extra processing power is there to be used.

Sony pushed pro for 4k owners though not 1080 owners so it's not that much of a surprise surely? Plus it's dev based be ****ed at naughty dog I doubt sony said let's remove it to annoy every one.

Yet so many forums including the game developer forums full of moaning for it. :s

Forum dwellers are only a tiny, tiny part of the market, people in those echo chambers forget that.

Also the same group that have put screenshots being identical to promo trailers up on a pedestal. Why risk the wrath of the forum crowd by aiming for 60fps by chopping some visual fidelity? Much safer to just go for 30fps and make the screengrabs as shiny as possible.

Every review under the sun said very explicitly that you should only get the pro if you have a 4k tv....If your just going to buy stuff for the sake of it then more fool you.

Just like the Scorpio. We've already been pre warned not to buy one unless you have a 4k TV.

What nonsense is this?

The Pro is for 1080p TV users as well, there are a number of benefits for you if you own a 1080p TV.

Screw TLG, having to buy a 4K capable system so you can play an ehanced PS3 game at a stable 30FPS at 1080p is a joke and shouldn't be a thought for this thread.

The fact you get a locked 60FPS at 1080p on the pro along with high quality shadows is a good thing, it would be nice to have SS, yes, maybe it will return when they nail the performance, who knows.
