I still don't understand how they managed to overcome all the armies of the world, pretty sure a few apes vs a gunship is going to end up with Ape stew being served..

And there was me thinking planet of the Apes was set in a parallel universe/distant future. Why does it look like it's set in present day and the non human apes just took over a couple of years ago?

I'm obviously missing something major here.

After watching that trailer, I got the feeling that despite 99% of the human population being wiped out by the virus, it seemed to bypass the US army.

I don't get how there can be any apes left to fight. At the end of the last one most of them got shot/blown up/crushed by the tower collapsing. The only ones left were mostly the females that were left behind IIRC.
