as for choice of backplate ,I haven't decided yet. are all these compatible and which would be the best in terms of cooling? or are they all just as good?

going to go with this tubing ...

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/monsoon-petg-tubing-16-12mm-id-1-2-od-5-8-4x90cm-clear-wc-303-mo.html ... what fittings do I need?
all advice welcome (Y)

for the ek parts, there is a compatibility checker on their website, there wil likely be similar information of the xspc website, best to check there.

The fitting you need are 16mm hardline fittings for example...
My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £51.63
(includes shipping: £8.70)

The monsoon ones need adhesive tho

Yeah like Ben says use coolingconfigurator to find the right block, you'll need the Nitro 480 block not the normal 480 one as the nitro uses a different PCB i believe.

damn, after using the ek website configurator it turns out that they only do blocks that would normally be used for cpu' . I just hope OCUK will accept a return after 2 weeks

Im sure they will be ok with it, especially when you tell them your gonna buy another GPU from them :) Just make sure ya check the waterblock availability before ya choose your next GPU.

While they are derived from a cpu block they are specifically built for a gpu and are perfectly fine for most cards. The problems come with cooling the vrm's and with your card I think that would be a problem as I don't think a suitable solution could be found without making something to fit. What is more surprising from EK is that the newer Thermosphere isn't listed as compatible on cooling configurator only the older Supremacy VGA.

with the rx480s you wont find any waterblocks apart from the reference card from EKWB. you may aswell buy that from OCUK direct and prebuilt unless its cheaper to buy seperately.

Might be worth thinking about - if your WC components cost >£150 total, you're probably better of buying a 1070 for a much bigger performance bump.
