Hi all.

Im going to be making a mortgage application next year. Now iv been currently living not far from work in a professional shared house.

I don't have a tenancy agreement on this one, but I pay rent to the private landlady who is a non live In one. As the gas/electric is on a payg meter, it's basically up to someone to top up and take it out the rent money, then.send her the rest.

It was never always like that we were on billable to her as my rent was all bills included. But she had it switched to top up. Beyond my control.

Anyway I want to be able to show mortgage lenders that I'm paying full month's rent. But at the moment obviously when I get paid I pay for gas /electric top up for that month then send the land lady the remaining money for the rent.

Is this going to look.bad when I apply for the mortgage as it only looks like I'm paying what would be half of rent, or should I either ask someone else.to take responsibility for the top up and send the landlady my full month's rent ?

Reason I'm house sharing is to keep costs down in the city whilst putting everything in savings. Plus it's 2 minutes from my work and I would rather not have just rent a place for myself. With the aim of buying later obviously

I bought a house this year and the mortgage lenders didn't care about my rent payments.

Only what my net pay was, how much the house I was buying would cost to run, and what other financial commitments I had.

Fair enough sounds promising :) I wasn't sure and heard mixed reviews about what they did and didn't check.

When I got my mortgage last year they only seemed to care about fixed outgoings like any loans or child maintenance. They just wanted proof of net salary and some bank statements, no questions came back.

I presume you've signed up to Experian and are getting your credit file in order ahead of your application?

I have done yeh, Im on clear score aswel. Which brings.me to another question actually whilst you mentioned that,

The only negative thing I had in my last report was that it keeps saying "I'm not on the electoral roll at my current address"

I'm on the electoral roll for the address im in now, iv been moving my bank address details over to where I am now. As initially I didn't have all my mail here.

Yet the report still has this claim .

I'm going to phone them at some point, I do have around £2k car finance remaining to pay but already spoke to a mortgage advisor initially about this they said car finance is usually fine this one will be ending next year anyway. And I have a credit card which will be cleared in new year but apart from.that all good

As it happens, I had the same issue recently - being on the electoral role but it not showing on my credit report. I emailed my local electoral role people (found using the help of Google) and they replied with a formal statement on headed paper saying that I was definitely on the electoral role. I emailed that to the credit report people and it was updated by the following month.

Cool I will get in touch with them. I have a letter confirming I'm on the electoral roll at this address so I will forward that on

No, they won't care.

I did it 6 months prior to getting a mortgage (sublet renting) and they didn't bat an eyelid.

I've just had similar, was refused a loan when I should have a great credit history so I signed up to Equifax and it's showing that I'm not on the electoral roll. I moved in April and I have the email showing when I made the change on gov.uk (and I got a vote for the EU referendum OK) so I'm not sure what has happened. I've done the forms on gov.uk again and I'll see what happens next month.

The strange thing is that my partner got a letter a few months ago saying she needed to call the local council about her being taken off the electoral roll and the previous owner's son was listed here (he did used to live here to be fair). I wonder if there is any kind of scam that could be going on as he was very hard up, the whole family were which is why they had to sell the house.
