Hi All,

I'm looking for some car advice and/or reassurance what i'm looking at is a good idea.

My Requirements:
Good sized car (I'm a big guy)
Quick
Newer than 2005
Less than 100k miles
Up to £15k

Current ideas:
Mitsubishi Evo X (Autotrader Link)
Skoda Octavia VRS (Link)

If you're looking for an evo-esque car an Octavia will be a massive disappointment. They're soft and not particularly responsive - good for a quicker family car, bang average for throwing around

The Skoda was more the sensible, getting older part of me coming out. I suppose I'm a little concerned the Evo could be perceived as a young mans/"boy racer" car..

The Evo would cost far more to run day to day, but they hold their value very well. If you really want one and can afford it, it may not be too bad overall if you aren't doing mega mileage.

You need to decide what you want. Do you want a quick version of an everyday car, or a more focused, much quicker car?

Will be doing between 15-20k mileage, so not too bad. Apart from the low MPG and cost of fuel. Is there any other running costs I need to be concerned by?

I want something that is fun and quick but big enough for me and the family when needed. (Ford Kuga will be used primarily for family and dog).

Servicing every 5k miles, transmission and diff oil every 10k

'Quick' is difficult to interpret here when your first post lists an Evo - genuinely quick car against an Octavia vRS which with respect is quick if you are used to a Focus 1.6 TDCi.

If I give an example. I've just got a 330D F31 with the 8 speed Auto. In my mind its a genuinely quick car, but also gets in my mind superb fuel economy.

All of those assessments are totally down to personal views, and I think until we understand if we are looking at a 'serious' fast car or a 'quick car for the family' then its hard to know where to take this next.

Looking at the above and other forums it would appear to be a 10k interval service, which is fine for me. I will check out the 330D and see what I can get for my money. I'm still in love with the evo just because of what it is and the performance it has, but still open to alternatives.

Checked out the 330D and 335i and they're now on my shortlist to test drive :)
