Hi Everyone,

I'm currently looking to build a new system for a friend and I'm looking for some advice on the build.

He has a budget of around 1400 Euros and needs a system that can handle 3D work in Maya, rendering and heavy duty photoshop and animation work.

He needs something that's somewhat portable (can fit in an airplane overhead locker) so I suggested to him a MicroATX build but I know you guys are pretty good at this so what would you suggest? He'll need to purchase the lot, ie. CPU, MB, Ram, Case, GFX Card, HD's/SSD's, Cooling. The system needs to be a workhorse so we're looking at 32GB Ram, an i7, at least one SSD for his working files and maybe a standard high capacity HD for backup.

Anyway, would love to see what you guys can come up with

Thanks

He'll need an ITX build for that by the time all the protective packaging is considered. Take a look at the Shuttle XPC barebones systems. E1400 isn't a lot for that sort of kit: if you went for a X99 box you could spend that on the Xeon CPU alone.

Thanks Quartz,

I think he'll probably go for a standard card rather than a Quadro or a Xeon processor. A 5820K with a GTX 1070 might be sufficient; I use a similar setup GTX1080 though for quite a lot of heavy duty video audio and game development work and it holds pretty well.
