Landline phone prices review launched by Ofcom

Yes and no.
£28 for the "up to 70mb" package all in is a very competitive price.
However if you want to use your own equipment with the service - so your own router etc. then no, steer clear!

There are still ways of getting this...if you have a few words with a supervisor they still do hand out login id and password to use 3rd party hardware.
So £28 is still a good deal.

you have to argue with them a fare amount, but you can get your own modem on the line - which is a good job as their one is shockingly poor!

Guessing that ISPs are upping the line price to keep their bb price down to make it look cheap?

If you've managed it - hats off to you.
I'm now up to 4 online conversations & 2 physical letters and still they will not give me the details, telling me each time "they cannot and will not" despite people on their own forums saying they have got them.
But hay, I shall keep on writing and I shall keep on taking up time of the live chat people.

you need to get through to either second line support (I asked while we were troubleshooting line issues) or the complaints team. Not sure live chat will cut it i'm afraid.

Make it pretty clear your a power user (politely) and that you'll of course plug their modem in before asking for support :)

Oh I've been told:

"Second line support doesn't exist"
"Those people on the forums saying they have the details are lying"
"People will be sacked if they give these details out"

It' becoming tiresome.
In fairness the Vodafone router is certainly behaving better now than it did - but nothing will beat my Openreach modem / Draytek combination.

In a former life my employer actually had a telephone roadshow, it basically encouraged staff to ensure customers continued to have a landline as the line rental generated a large revenue stream, that was used as a subsidy for the rest of the offering. Back then we were surprised they'd pushed line rental to £10/m, now it's just at silly levels.

yer, its weird the rubbish people seem to be getting told - hope the guy I spoke to didn't get fired (or his second line support role didn't vanish) cause he was genuinely helpful!

Yes, I think it's a case of just keep trying until you find the right person, who is willing to hand the details out. Or is able to put you through to a higher team with the correct details.
