Had an impatient douche moment, and paid the price

Do people even read nowadays?

What I took from this thread, is that the OP has no intention of "doing over" the young lad. He intends to put his car right properly. He is torn though, between repairing his car (the OP's) via insurance (the OP's own), and keeping the young lad out of it, to save him potential price hikes in his insurance, as we have already well established on here that being in a non-fault accident still raises your risk profile, and so insurance prices. And repairing himself, out of his own pocket, which may cost 4 figures.

Give the guy a break. He is, after-all, trying to do the best thing for the young lad here. Albeit by potentially being a **** to his own insurance provider.

He said he didn't admit fault in the opening post.

Do you even read?

Exactly. First rule of car crash thread, is you don't admit fault.

Merely found it funny that I had to resist apologising to the lad even though we all know how it would go on a claim.

I know I am gonna have to fix the lads car... That's pretty blooming obvious. I may drive like a BMW owner but I'm not that much of a see you next Tuesday.

Oh well. I don't have the choice anymore anyway as I just spoke to the lad and he has already called his insurance company up, which turns out is the same as mine, so am expecting the call tomorrow.

I guess that saves me the hassle of having to worry about finding parts and the like, as I might as well just claim to get my car repaired as well given I am going to get a premium hit, plus I will only have to fork out on the excess.

And what are you going to tell them, that you were gunning it on the wrong side of the road, or say it was 50% the kids fault...

Erm, Im going to tell them what happened, and let them figure it out. What the **** do you think I am going to do? Lie and say he was on the wrong side of the road. You think bad of me. Maybe thats what you would do, but I can't sleep easy at night committing insurance fraud.

Have I wronged you in the past or something?

I had someone scratch me (and admit fault) so hyundai set up a third party claim and it never touched my insurance (it's an incident no claim made officially).

Thought that would happen. You can bet his parents kicked up a stink!

What a **** you are and the fact you find it "lol". Exactly what is wrong with the world today, if it was the other way round you'd be crying at being scammed.

I never understand the "don't admit fault at the roadside" crap.

Sure, if it's questionable or could go either way... going on the wrong side of the road, overtaking 10 cars to turn off a side road.. I would have to hold up my hands and say "my bad".

My lol was at the fact that he was really apologetic when we both all knew who's fault it was. Anyway, I already accepted the blame when I explained what happened to the insurance company.

I feel sorry for the kid now as he will have an inflated premium because he went to his insurance company. If he was more savey he would have waited for the phone call last night from me to talk about potentially figuring out how we could resolve outside of them. The short of it is now, that he has helped me out as my excess is £250, and for that I get a fixed car and the stress of sorting it all out gone, with a hike to my premium for the next 3 years. Even at a £200 hike it will probably work out cheaper than if I sorted it out myself.

That's exactly what you were thinking about doing when you were talking about claiming on your insurance but denying knowledge of another car

I was asking the question of how do you do an insurance claim without getting the other party involved if you are 100% to blame and are resolving the other party's damages. Is that possible? Probably not, and I wouldn't want to commit fraud, so I wouldn't actually go and do that. It was a tongue in cheek comment.

To be fair what was he going to do? Wait for a phone call from you that may never have come?

None of your opening post reads as tongue in cheek, it reads as you laughing at some young driver and then asking how to lie to your insurance company. That'll be why you've gotten a less than warm response. Maybe some smiles next time or less "tongue in cheek".

Perhaps one of our resident traffic cops can arrange a nice prosecution for the OP, careless driving should do nicely...

Queue jumpers (especially those in BMW's or Audi's) make me wish I had a bonnet mounted MG42 sometimes.
