Hi all

Having a problem with my PC I'm not a gamer at all but now and again I like to play a few old games like Farcry1 and Left4dead 2. But for some reason after about 20 seconds of playing the game I get small freezes that last for about 5 seconds then it unfreezes and then I'm good for about another 20 seconds before it starts doing it again.

I have tested my memory done a clean install of windows 10 Updated all my drivers and tested my PSU. I have even ran FurMark and MSI Kombustor 3 and it ran fine in that. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem. My PC specs are in my sig.

Thanks

:)

Do you get any kind of hang in general use, or is it only in games? Either way, I'd check your SSD is performing properly first. Stick resource monitor on, then go and play some games. When the issue occurs, ALT+TAB out, and check the various readings. Pay particular attention to the Disk tab, specifically the Disk Activity section's "response time" column and the "queue length" graph to the right. If these are high, check what is causing it in the "image" and "file" columns.

Thanks for that I will check out resource monitor. I do sometime get a problem when watching movies the screen will go black but the sound is still playing and I have to shut the movie down and start it back up.

Apart from potential SSD issue, also sounds potentially like a graphics driver issue or physical card issue.

Do you have a spare card to try?

I'd first recommend different display drivers (if no newer, try an older one).

I dont have samsungs magic center thingy installed atm, does it have a test or benchmark? Maybe you could test it then compare the read results to the specs to see if its performing slowly.

Just a quick update i installed a spare ssd drive and the problem is still there. I think i have a old graphics card i could try so i will dig it out tomorrow.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Another update

I just installed a old 76GT card in the PC there are no driver updates for this old card on windows 10 and it told me it was using a basic driver. But both games played fine. They did look a bit choppy but they never froze up on me. Is this looking like my RX-460 has had it ?
