GTX 760 refusing to work on Abit QuadGT IX38 Motherboard

Hi all,

I recently bought an Abit QuadGT IX38 motherboard as part of a project to build a spare parts machine. I have a GTX 470 that works just fine in the machine but when I tried putting my GTX 760 it refuses to show anything to the screen, it does boot up correctly and seems to get into windows okay. I can hear it pausing until I type in my password at which point the drive spins up again for a bit while it does the normal bit of more thinking on login.

The only thing I can think of is that the motherboard has a PCI-E x16 2.0 slot whereas the card is PCI-E 3.0 but it should be backwards compatible. The PSU also shouldn't be a problem, it's a good quality Silverstone 650W and I doubt the 760 needs much more power than the 470.

Any ideas? I've tried just about everything I can think of in the BIOS, all the PCI-E compatibility settings don't do anything.

Thanks!

Guessing it needs a BIOS update. Have you checked if it's running the latest version?

Yep it's running the latest BIOS, unfortunately Abit went out of business in 2009 so nothing further coming from them.

It's possibly because the card only supports a UEFI BIOS.

A few months ago I was looking to purchase a 700 series card for an old Abit motherboard. I discovered that the lower spec cards (710,720,730) have a legacy BIOS and would be compatible. I didn't go ahead with the purchase so I can't say with certainty they'd work.

After reading into it a bit five8five I think you're right. Does anyone know of a solution to this? I'm willing to try flashing a BIOS onto the 760, it'll just sit and gather dust otherwise.
