Hi all,

Looking for some suggestions for a book for the wife, she's said she'd like something with a magical theme along the lines of harry potter but for grown ups.

Which no doubt will sit on the pile of books that she has next her bed that she gets every year and never reads but who am I to argue.

Any suggestions?

Belgarath books we have already along with The Golden Compass etc.
Can't get her into Discworld books but she enjoys the TV versions of them.

Although written as a children's book, Elidor by Alan Garner recommended.

More sci-fi than fantasy but some of the earlier Andre Norton titles - Sargasso Of Space, Judgement On Janus worth a look.

Not forgetting of course good old John Ronald Reuel, LOTR still a cracking read albeit the style of writing does shift towards a more formal archaic style in the later part of Two Towers and Return Of The King.

I'd recommend:

The Invisible Library series
About a spy working for the Library, which collects specific works of fiction from different realities. In this first books she's sent to an alternative steampunky London where they have to retrieve a book, but when they arrive, it's already been stolen ().

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. About a police officer that realises he has the ability to perform magic, and then joins a secret branch of the police that deals specifically with magic related crime.
