Insurer's write off valuation seems fair - still haggle??

Do ask the question about buy back. Sometimes they will give it back for a stupidly low amount of money. Other times it goes the other way. It's really worth asking the question though.

Agree with the point. Fairings need replacing though and I'm guessing that's expensive.

I'll ask the question though (once I have the money!).

Very expensive if you buy brand new OEM which is what the insurance company will be costing for, not so bad if you don't mind grabbing 2nd hand and having them painted.

If that's all that's majorly damaged though and I can fully believe it wouldn't take much plastics damage to write off an SV then you've basically still got a perfectly functional bike to do up on the cheap and ride until it dies, flog bits off or use as a spares donor if you get another SV.

When I dropped mine on ice at the start of the year it was just outside my usual garage so they took it in got it rideable for the end of my shift and gave me a damage write up for the insurance if I wanted to claim. Using OEM parts and including labour it was about £500 or a quarter of the value of the bike to fix a broken front brake res, indicator, shift lever and crash bung

Fixed it myself with much nicer aftermarket bits for less than £100 and an hour or 2 in the garden.

Yeah, I'd accept. Do insurers struggle to value motorbikes?

When I wrote my Aprilia off 8 years ago they paid me back double what I paid for it 6months later.

Depends if who you are dealing with has any idea about motorbikes, when mine got written off the girl had no idea and was trying to fob me off with 600cc bike prices and then older model prices, in the end I had to send them links to exact models on ebay and the like, and they offered me pretty much what I paid for it :)

Fairings are stupidly expensive from a dealer. Easily enough to write off a motorbike.

Some people, like me, don't worry about the fairings or a cat C etc. ;)

As.long as the price is right. I'm after an SV. ;)
