Gtx 1070 or 1080

I've got a 3440x1440 and I have a 1080. If you don't mind lowering the settings maybe a 1070. But I have to have everything maxxed out, Fallout 4 in particular appreciates the grunt and even then I can't run God Rays on Ultra.

I went through the same decision and whilst a 1070 was enough for my needs at the time of my purchase a 1080 was £150 more than the 1070 I was looking at. Whether that £150 is worth an extra 25% to a person is debatable especially when the 1070 is already very capable. My deciding factor though was that no other pc component (ram/cpu//mobo) would have given me another 20 fps in games and given I'd gone all out on the other components I thought why not!

I've tried 3440x1440 with a 1070 and while I've not been able to play with a 1080 at that res yet IMO that extra 20-25% performance would make quite a difference i.e. DX:MD at 2560x1440 I was able to keep most stuff turned up nicely and keep framerates smooth but 3440x1440 I was having to sacrifice a couple of visual settings or deal with some places where the framerate didn't feel fluid - but I was only just falling short.

Running a 1080 with a Dell 27" G-Sync 1440p, and l am more than happy with the performance, l went specifically for this set up for longevity (if that is even possible) and to try and stop my self from grabbing every generation card :) Happy gaming OP.

1070 gtx for 1080 ultra and high fps
1080 gtx for 1440 ultra good fps

thats basically what the cards are for.

it is right for new games.thats what the 1070 gtx is for 1080.

the 1070 is the 970 gtx replacement.which was a 1080 card.
the 1080 is the 980 gtx replacement.which was a 1440 card

laugh all you want modern games on ultra and modern monitors its correct.

There's a difference between people's reasoning behind what a certain graphics card is capable of. GTX 1070 imo is well capable of 1440p resolutions on nearly all AAA game's delivering 60FPS. No idea what other people are using but I've got one rig that runs a GTX1070 with a 1440p 60htz screen. Absolutely no need for anything more powerful. If you think you need more gpu grunt go for it but the 1070 is a 1440p capable card. 1080 is better obviously but for its price to performance isn't good, even the 1070 isn't good in that respect.

I use a gtx 1070 with my ultrawide it runs everything perfectly.

What resolution.? As far as I'm aware 980ti @ 1500 is faster then most 1070s and for me that doesn't do well in some games at 3440x1440.

One of the games that OP asked for was Mafia 3 so try running that at 1440p ultra wide on a 1070.

Exactly.I have a titan xp and at times I get bad drops at this res.Still have to lower some settings on some games to try achieve 100fps.
