Family Holiday safe zones

What a stupid post I just spent few weeks in morocco and it was great fun, if your going to live life in fear, your not going to have a good life.

There hasn't to be a degree of balance to it - I wouldn't personally take a young family to a good few places right now some of which I probably would visit on my own or with a small number of experienced travellers but a few I'd actively look elsewhere - Turkey for instance though you'd probably be alright especially where many of the resort types places are there is a good chance of it going spectacularly sideways at the moment not to mention ongoing threats from certain groups to attack tourist sites.

People go abroad because of the weather, a nice hot country, pool/sea and ice cold beer is rather more appealing than the Rhyl municipal leisure centre. :)

I would stay away from anywhere remotely Islamic, there are reasons it's dirt cheap. And most places outside of Saudi Arabian cities are ****-holes anyways and i'm personally boycotting anything to do with Saudi Arabia as i don't want them to have a penny of my money.

Avoid all muslim countriesq and you should be fine.

So avoid the cheap deals for Egypt and Turkey and you should be safe.

When we go we fly from our local airport to the canaries as its super easy, 40 min drive to airport, 2 hour flight, short transfer.

In b4 craptakular is a racist - No i don't want to be machine gunned on a beach or blown up at an airport. So I reduce risk and refuse to go these countries. Yes I went to some in the 90's....

LMAO this is all a little harsh... What about places like the Maldives, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Malaysia, Indonesia... the list goes on, you can hardly call most places outside of Saudi Arabia a dive just because of some peoples racist views on Muslims.

Have you considered staying in the UK, perhaps try North Wales?

There's a modern way of thought that seems to suggest that a holiday for a Brit without sunburn and sharing a packed beach with fellow sweating armpits and perspiring crotches is anathema. North Wales won't usually allow a natural sun burn :)

I love it when you happy clappy types fall flat on their face.

If you are an experienced traveller Egypt actually isn't too bad at the moment though not somewhere I'd go for a family holiday - I'd avoid Turkey though - not quite sure how its going to play out but the recent bombings are merely a warning shot compared to what is potentially to come - if Turkey ramps it up against the Kurds in response that part of the world is likely going to descend into hell.

TBH Hurghada is still perfectly safe, as safe as it has been for the last couple of decades anyway. Egypt is a big place and comparing the Sinai and Cairo (afaik now actually not that bad now) with Hurghada really isn't fair to that place.

If you're just looking for a resort holiday then Hurghada will be fine.

*Significant parts of Egypt have been no go zones for decades and I remember in 2003 having to go in convoy from Hurghada to Luxor because of tourist killings a few years before.

Just like the list above about the other places.

Personally I'd rather take advice from the FCO about where is safe and where is t, rather than our resident negativistas.

I know you won't agree, being a bit of a hermit but you can also go abroad to see different cultures, foods, nature and wildlife...

OP if you cross reference the posters in this thread, their views on "travel" and their views on immigrants/Muslims you'll see a nice trend.

If I fell flat on my face then I didnt feel it. Now does this mean we shouldn't visit any Christian part of the world for a holiday too? I mean I'm sure I could find way more if I looked at North and South America.

We're looking for next Sept.... ages 4 and 7.

We've replaced abroad holiday's with caravan holidays, which having been fortunate enough as a child to experience both aborad and caravan my fondest memories have been away in the caravan.... However we fancy a change!

Kind of confirm what i expected tbh... Cheaper the more risk, which i'm not willing to take.

Dont know what you guys think, but was hoping for a week all inc mid Sept (no discussion about taking them out of school, our choice)...... Budget of £2100.

In term should be pretty easy at 2.1k for a solid if not spectacular all inclusive.

Cairo isn't really too bad at the moment - maybe not quite as it was say in 2005 or so but not that different to how it has been in general over the years. I guess if you fly pretty much directly in and out of Hurghada and don't leave the resort area you'd be fairly safe but I'd rather just go somewhere else.

Well TBH I wouldn't go to Hurghada either* (although I have been twice in the past). But then I'm not a fan of resort holiday and would avoid places like Tenerife, Cos and Rhodes etc as well. :p

For an all inclusive resort holiday with some fun outside (a days snorkelling, quad bikes etc) then it's as good a place to go as any European resort destination. Security isn't any more an issue than any other though.

*except for a diving holiday - the reason I went a second time.

I prefer holidays abroad as you've a much better chance of the weather not being absolute gash.

Thanks to the joys of global warming you can have a week almost anywhere in the U.K. In august and it is redhot.

3 years running we've went to various destinations in the lakes in august for between 10-14 days and had 2 days rain. Red hot, loads to do, quicker, cheaper it's perfect.

People seem to believe they must go abroad to have a holiday and it's really not true at all. We'll go abroad if it's somewhere really special but paying 2-3k for an average hotel in the middle of Spain and enduring a flight isn't great value.

FCO seems to be a bit OTT most of the time.

Take this from someone who prides themselves on their international exposure and has travelled a lot

Statistically you're much more likely to get attacked by a mugging, or die in the taxi on the way to the airport.

In that context I'd far rather go Hurghada than Kos lol.
