As the circles get larger the people within them become ever more moderate. It's the outer most circles, the moderate and people born Muslim that the west needs to work with. These are the good Muslims who simply want to live in peace. Sam Harris said that in order for a reformation in Islam to take place the West needs to engage moderate peaceful Muslims and work from the outer circle toward the inner circles and he is right. It's going to be a generational thing though to affect any real change. Education needs to be at the core. Sadly, much like the Christian reformation centuries ago in Europe, it will likely take centuries to reform Islam.

And the west are fighting against the two smallest circles (and those that believe they are representative muslims) to try and make sure those in the largest circles aren't pushed towards the smaller ones. The more divisiveness and separation being caused by those against Islam the more normal muslims are being marginalised and pushed towards extremism.
You don't fight extremism by marginalisation, you fight it by being inclusive.

Because a large part of the islamic religion is based off of subjugation, conversion by the sword etc.... much like most religions 600 years ago.
islam needs a reform like christianity had, there are people trying to reform it and bring it into the modern age but sadly a lot of them are stopped dead in their tracks, literally.
Where does the population of countries with Sharia Law fit into this? You could say Saudi Arabia and Iran are 'living in peace' - but with a combined population of 100 million people and lovely public executions etc. I don't like your idea of the future.

Agreed and to be inclusive you have to engage with them. Hence why moderate Muslims are the best people to engage as they are more amenable to Western culture. Trying to engage with ISIS is pointless, they won't listen they'll just kill you.
