I like this image below as it defines the different stripes of Muslims. The two smallest circles at the center represent about 20 million Muslims. These are Jihadists and fundamentalists. As the circles get larger the people within them become ever more moderate. It's the outer most circles, the moderate and people born Muslim that the west needs to work with. These are the good Muslims who simply want to live in peace. Sam Harris said that in order for a reformation in Islam to take place the West needs to engage moderate peaceful Muslims and work from the outer circle toward the inner circles and he is right. It's going to be a generational thing though to affect any real change. Education needs to be at the core. Sadly, much like the Christian reformation centuries ago in Europe, it will likely take centuries to reform Islam.
