Truck crashes into Christmas market in Berlin

Being married to one and being amongst the people and culture for 10 years? Probably met a couple hundred throughout, heck these were Bangladeshi Muslims and are considered reasonable and moderate compared to Pakistani Muslims which even the Bangladeshis call them crazy!

Long story but the police got involved when i left my ex-wife and the death threats from the entire community started

I'd like to hear this long story. When did you get married? You were together 10 years?

The barriers and armed police did offend people. But this is why they are necessary. Sad times :(.

It's completely impossible to protect all the Christmas markets from this kind of attack. There isn't just one market in a Germany city. They are everywhere, every shopping street, every neighbourhood. There's 4 or 5 decent sized ones just in the inner shopping district here in Düsseldorf. Some are in areas that would be difficult for a truck to get at, but others, next to through roads etc. will always be vulnerable.

I think this would be much tougher to do in the uk

even my small provincial town centre is entirely pedestrianised with hydraulic bollards preventing vehicluar access

looking at the nice attack and this one the market looks to be on closed public roads

I wonder if this harks back to IRA car bomb attacks so town centres have progressively changed to avoid having vehicles in shopping areas?

Nazi party were left wing on the economic spectrum, hence the Socialist part, and right wing on the sociocultural spectrum, hence the Nationalist part. They weren't just a right wing party.

No. Well, sort of.

Nationalism is not right-wing. Many communist movements were nationalist rather than internationalist for example.

The traditional left-right political dichotomy is about revolutionaries versus reactionaries (see French revolutionary period). In that sense, Nazism is regarded as right-wing because they were the opposing force to Communism, which was inherently revolutionary in nature. Fascists did originally regard themselves as reactionary too, but Il Duce and Hitler changed that. They thought of themselves as revolutionary.

You're right to say National Socialism is left of centre economically. Ironically Labour have more in common with the Nazis than the Tories do. A point often lost by these people who throw around "Nazi!!" and "Fascist" labels.

What did she honestly think would happen? All refugees would embrace the German way of life and do their best to integrate?

The vast majority will, it will only be probably a couple of hundred(according to UK intelligence) who are terrorists infiltrating. A couple of hundred out of a Million+ is nearly all. Think of the dangers and hardships they have faced to get to Germany. They are just like immigrants from any other time in history.

Definitely, the UK has decades of experience protecting against terrorist attacks. Take a look at any important or popular building in London and you'll see (often quite cunningly disguised) defences against vehicular attacks.

RIP to those that lost their lives:(

I see plenty of deleted posts, i do hope the mod who deleted those have a good reason why and not just doing a censorship just because they don't agree.

Mmm we have vehicle access to multiple parts of the main streets in Edinburgh.

Buses travel up and down princes street and George Street.

One Section of Princes Street as Example

This street often has thousands of people walking down it every day. Although car traffic is banned, the only thing stopping them is a NO ENTRY sign. No bollards etc.

On the opposite side of the street, a large section is used for the Christmas Market. There is fencing but you could cause mayhem with a large vehicle. Not sure how Edinburgh could even plan against this without completely stopping public transport using Princes Street.

Why are so many Pakistanis being given "asylum", he won't have been a Christian Pakistani fleeing persecution, and he was already known to the German authorities? I know Pakistan's interior minister is making it hard for the EU to return the thousands of illegals from Pakistan, but a known trouble maker allowed continuing "asylum" from a country that is democratic and developed?? They just beg for trouble taking these economic migrants in....
