BMW rear Brake Discs - How long did yours last?

Was planning to order rear pads for my E65 today, but then I got to thinking, I know it needs pads, but the car has only done 60k should I be considering doing the discs too.

Any way, went out to stick my specially lipped measuring calipers on to measure the discs, but I cannot get them onto the blinking discs to get a reading with the wheels on, the brake caliper, and the dust shield are in the way, and means I cannot get a reading!!

Its cold, and I don't want to take the wheel off to see if I can get better access, so put my mind at rest, how many miles were yours when they went below minimum?
 
MTFU and go take a reading?

I would, but my brother has nicked my trolley jacks and axle stands :( Really don't want to have to use the OE jack thingy.

Original is 24mm, and 22.4 is min.

Discs are cheap enough. I would just swap them out it makes sense at that mileage.
Plus the pads will wear nicely.
 
You don't need a measuring device to check disc thickness. Just feel the lip at the edge. you'll know when the disc needs changing if the lip is obvious without even having to touch the disc with a finger anyway.

I always like to know how far they are gone exactly for the following reasons:

1 - I can check wear rates between pad changes
2 - Different brands have different wear rates, do i don't like to assume :)
3 - Extra check for getting correct sized discs
4 - It justifies me owning a customised disk caliper tool

I can vouch that deciding to check this way straight after a spirited drive hurts a lot. :o
 
If you've gone through a set of BMW pads then officially the disks will be below the minimum thickness. Discs are sacrificial these days as the pads are more abrasive. You might want to look at what disks are fitted though as genuine BMW ones (on my F11 at least) have alloy hubs to reduce the rotational mass.
