By the same token, should any british soldiers ever be caught by an opposing army you'll be more than happy for them to be shot indiscriminately?

You mean like the Taliban do? Well actually, they tended not to shoot rather torture then murder.

I never understood the concept of cowardice when faced with an enemy that can drop 155mm shells on your head from 15km 30s after you engage them.

Do you really think its cowardice or common sense that the Taliban fight with hit and run guerilla warfare.

Im not defending them i wish they were annihilated too but their tactics are appropriate for the level of opponent they are up against.

Because i dont like the Taliban? I fear its you that needs the medication.

You're missing the point entirely. Calm down and think about it.

You can't pick and choose whether you see the enemy as an army or a bunch of nutters with guns - arguably, sometimes, there isn't much in it! Our army operates under certain rules of war - acting with honour and dignity may be one sided but again you can't pick and choose who you feel is deserving of mercy.

If an enemy fighter has one of ours, injured and unarmed and the enemy executes our boy - we are entitled to be outraged by the injustice.

If we treat our enemies the same way then our enemies are equally entitled to feel that injustice and spurs them on to commit even great atrocities because that's what they expect from us.

Whether they treat us with the same dignity is up to them. If they don't then it demonstrates what we are fighting for in the first place.

I think she should do a life sentence! He shot and killed a wounded unarmed man, even if he was a insurgent he broke the rules of engagement that he fully understood, and then has the cheek to say ''I just broke the Geneva convention''

sorry he's a absolute idiot!

I think the cowardice stems from hiding amongst civilians and using indiscriminate methods of attack (IED's).

This however is the point. They fight without rules and so are a very hard foe to face. Regulations and laws force Western forces to fight with one hand tied behind their back. Russia seem to fight in some sort of middle-ground which works reasonably well without them being complete animals.

Hidden Roadside IED not cowardly? Ill let you tell that to the family of the next child that steps on one then.

Ludicrous.

Millions dead in the middle east, and an army guy shoots dead another piece of scum and gets jailed for it.

World is mental. UK is a total laughing stock.

If it was me Id be poppin' bullets in as many of 'em as I could.

That is exactly what I mean, do you want our Army to act like this? Do you believe the Geneva Convention is a load of old tosh that our soldiers can flout whenever they feel like it?

If it was you, you'd have wet your bags and be crying in a corner as soon as you saw the Hercules sitting on the tarmac waiting to ship you out.

So you believe we should send men and women to fight an enemy who obey no rules but must be confined by rules themselves?
You do appreciate that puts their lives at greater risk don't you?

Im posting properly, instead of replying in a normal way and debating you are acting like a child that has just had his dummy taken off him. Way to go.

I'm not sure your first reply could exactly come under the adult debate banner to be honest.

I do appreciate that, and so do the soldiers in basic training. I don't recall since conscription when anyone forced somebody in to the army.

the police have to deal with people who don't follow rules
do we make the police abide by rules or not?

but yes I agree at the increased risk

what was the risk from an unarmed dying insurgent?
