Looking to get business in the new house, moving from BT business broadband to another provider hopefully to save some pennies (BT is ~£45 including 1 fix IP). Namely use business for the fixed IP and pretty decent SLA's you get and I do need as I work at home.

Any recommendations?

It depends on what you're using the connection for, but if you just want a static IP then a standard domestic Plusnet account and a one off £5 fee will get you there.

This obviously ignores the SLA part of your question, but the SLAs I've seen on standard business ADSL and VDSL connections are basically worthless anyway.

I've always found the SLA's really useful in terms of any problem and getting back online first i.e. the BT outage a few weeks ago I was back within a couple of hours and I know people who were out for a lot longer i.e. 12+ hours.

Remember that a static IP isn't the definative answer as well.

Dynamic DNS services exist that give you a host name that is automatically updated to point to your dynamic IP address (update via software you run on your PC /sever)

Been using one for the last 6 years without fail.

If its a normal xDSL service, I'd recommend Zen as they will offer a fixed IP as part of your service.

Any recommendations bar dyndns? Any that don't require frequent logging in? I'd rather a set and forget option.

What do you need the static IP address for? If you're thinking of running services over this link then you may want to consider getting something more suitable for it for example many services black list known public dhcp scopes.

Dymanic DNS is an option, but I'd prefer a static IP and again the SLA's I've always found useful.

I've looked at -

-> XLN
-> Andrews & Arnold (expensive compared to BT)

Another vote for Zen, their customer service is very good. Been using them for years without trouble.

Line faults are still dealt with by BT, although I have had cases where Zen have spoken to the BT engineers and told hem the standard checks were insufficient and asked them to go back to site and try something else (I also use Zen for multiple company sites where leased lines aren't feasible).

What do you need the business service for? If it's reliability and you want to pay broadband prices then get whatever FTTC you fancy that ticks the boxes for letting you use your own kit, static IP, IPv6 etc. and then get a 4G dongle and a subscription and a router that can failover to it. The SLAs on broadband connections don't mean anything - it's just a target fix time with money back when the deadline is missed. Presumably having the connection is more valuable than having your monthly fee refunded if you're offline for 3 days, so don't pay any attention to it.
