Hi guys I've found these 2 cars which meet my budget nicely

I always said I'd never have another manual but I also said I'd never have FWD again. An auto 1 series would be ideal but not in my budget at the minute.(Sub £350 per month inc vat)

The reason I hate FWD so much is on anything other then a dry day I always get wheel spin when pulling out of junctions and roundabouts. I'm not a boy racer or a fast driver, but I don't granny drive either.

I know the golf, on paper, is faster but I think most of the time I won't miss the extra 20-30 bhp. As said in non-dry conditions the acceleration on the golf will be limited. Also every drug dealer and his mum have a Golf GTD or R

Golf every day of the week, it is a much better car. We have one of both and the BMW will be replaced with a GTI next. The BMW has a choppy ride and build quality is not as good as the golf. There is also more room in the golf and maintenance costs are cheaper.

£8000 over the 2 years wowsers.

This is stupid money to spend on base spec zero options cars like the 118d.

You'd lose nothing like £8k over 2 years on a smartly purchased higher spec/better model.

Leasing works when you can grab a bargain. It's probably more than £8k too as there is no mention of the deposit in those prices?

Does not compute :p

That seems like a lot of money for either of those two cars.

Might be worth finding some better examples to compare with, rather than making a throw-away comment like that.

The world of cars is changing - prices will be going up - so what seemed expensive six months or a year ago might now be where the market is.

That does seem like a fairly hefty chunk for either. IIRC the golr R could be had for less than 250 not too long ago and the new m140i could be had for like 280 a month or so ago as well.

I remember this too. I also remember seeing 125d m sport auto for £240-250

I'm blaming brexit

Numbers on the Golf look roughly right if talking a 3+23 deal, a lot of these 'cheap' deals rely on 6 or 9 months upfront a lot of the time :)

I had a GTD company car for a couple of years and to be honest I really liked it, good chunk of kit as standard and was a nice enough drive and place to sit.

Replaced it with another Golf when it was time to change, although gone for a personal lease on an R as the company scheme is just getting silly expensive now.

Its a class difference, you want practicality and running costs go golf, but the bm might well feel a bit more like what you like.

Personally i'd take neither and go for an older second hand 3 series or something along those lines. but then thats a personal choice of being able to live with an older car (seriously its fine, age condition and milage are the golden trio as long as you have 2 out of 3 it'll be grand)

Your best route is go test drive both, theres nothing like "feel" and itll be down to something intangable that only you can pick up.

Don't really want a second hand car, got to keep up with the jones and all

No only joking i like new for the hassle free motoring

Anyone know if the BMW has stuff like parking sensor and cruise control?

What is the difference in hassle between a new 1 Series and a 6 month old 1 Series? Especially if you only keep it for 2 years.

I'd happily have a 6-12 month old car as it will basically be like new and still under warranty

It would only be for 18-24 months

What would be the easiest way to purchase it? I rather not put down anymore then £2000-3000
