Help choosing new car 1 series or Golf

I'd happily have a 6-12 month old car as it will basically be like new and still under warranty

It would only be for 18-24 months

What would be the easiest way to purchase it? I rather not put down anymore then £2000-3000

Cash. Go to your bank and apply for a loan or a car loan if they don't fancy your chances for the former.

Interest rates on finance for used is ridiculous through dealers etc

Wouldn't get a x18d, minimum x20d

As above I'd get a 6 month or 1 year old car. 3 year warranty anyway. More deals on 3 series too

I've had both of those.
The BMW 118i M-Sport (2012 model with 177bhp) for 3 years and currently a Golf R for just over a year.

  • The Golf rides better; the run flats fitted on the BMW mean a choppy ride.
  • The BMW infotainment iDive system is so much better than the slow touch screen system on the Golf.
  • The interior quality is much the same on both, although I prefer the smaller, thicker steering wheel on the BMW.

If I had to chose one of those then I would get the 1 Series.

Mrs won't let me get golf, said it's too common

I've used the vag sat nav info system it's so slow and horrible to use

Yea because the 118d is super rare :p

A quick glance on howmanyleft suggests there are more 120d/118d M Sport than there are Golf GTD on the road.

But that will be counting the old shape too

How about something different like a range rover evoque or audi Q3 or S3

I really like the look & size of the Range rover evoque

What version of the VW infotainment did you use? I've just gone to the newer 'MIB2' system from a 'MIB1' and the difference is night and day.

Bigger screen, higher resolution and zero lag when doing anything.

With the MIB1 there was always a delay when issuing commands, for instance waiting for the sat nav to come up with your choice of routes took an annoying amount of time.

Tried out the nav on the newer version today and it was instant with the route options, and just better overall.

Really I haven't seen many GTD's around either new shape or old shape. But normal golfs are a dime a penny.

I've had my GTD since new 2014 and I don't get wheelspin eithet in wet or dry conditions unless I really nail the pedal and I have a pretty heavy foot. So I must be doing it all wrong then:p.

Yeh my sat nav on my GTD is slow as hell, I don't use it...I tend to use Waze or google maps in my car...connected via BT so it uses the car speakers.
