I'm with Lloyds Bank I think. Or TSB? lol

But I'm guessing they aren't the best for students.

Can the oracle of GD enlighten me please?

When I was a student about 4 years back, I used the Co-op since they gave the biggest interest free overdraft. It might well be worth having a look at this article on Money Saving since it'll have some more up to date information.

EDIT: And bare in mind that you can still keep your current bank account as well but if you have a student account. But you might well have to declare this when you apply for your student account.

I had no problems also having a standard Lloyds current account while I was a student.

Plan on using overdraft ? Check which give the biggest. I was with Santander, easy enough to switch my account to a student one - had immediate access to the full 2,000 overdraft as I had been with them a long time which you might not get if you swap banks which is something to keep in mind. They did offer a 4 year rail card and I can't say I have ever had a problem with them . Most important is the terms and conditions of the overdraft facility if you plan to use it. Other than that most are quite similar

Lloyds would get you a stingy 0% overdraft and an NUS Extra Card. Check Nationwide or Coop for decent overdraft terms. Looking at comparison sites, HSBC might be worth a shout this year, too.

The approach is generally simple: get the best overdraft possible; interest paid to you for being in-credit is nice; generally ignore the freebies, unless it's something like a railcard and you need it and are happy with the hit on the overdraft terms it may result. As a rule of thumb, banks add sweeteners to make a worse deal stand out, though not all sweeteners are terrible. ;)

Cheers all. I've been looking at money saving expert and comparing.

Once know what can be offered out I can go to the bank and speak to the bank manager and explain. They put my credit limit on my cards to about 7x what it was prior and I needed manager authorisation.

If not I'll have places to look at. As I'll be looking at gettinga student loan in February I'll get a heads up on it.

Natwest.

Still got my £1600 overdraft even though it's not a student/graduate account anymore just a basic one and I finished uni 7 years ago.

When I signed up for one two years ago they were all much of a muchness. I've got a Halifax account with a £1000 overdraft, there is the facility to raise it but atm I don't need to as I haven't used it yet.

Cheers, i'll be investigating and then comparing further. As I will have my own house I will need every bit of my student loan and overdraft! :)
