There's going to be a full Hollywood feature film about Amy Winehouse, which pleases me as I'm a great fan of her. However, Noomi Rapace? Yeah, me neither. Never heard of her and she looks nothing like Winehouse.

British singer Amy Winehouse had only been 20 for a few weeks when her first album was released, but her path to stardom took her to the top quickly. As the world learned in 2011, however, Winehouse’s struggles with substance abuse would eventually lead to her tragic death at the age of 27. Negotiations are now underway with Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse for the rights to produce a feature film biopic about the meteoric rise and fall of Amy Winehouse. The currently untitled project was written and will be directed by Kirsten Sheridan, who wrote her father’s film In America (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award), and directed the 2007 film August Rush. These plans follow the recent box office success of the documentary Amy, which Winehouse’s father has “distanced himself from.” For the lead role, the producers are negotiating with Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who has been an in-demand actress in Hollywood since she first came to attention in 2009 as the star of the three Swedish films adapting Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy “nordic noir” novels as the gothic hacker Lisbeth Salander.

So, the motivation is basically money then? Her father really is the least sympathetic character.

You read into that a lot. Maybe the negotiations will include some sort of say in how his late daughter is depicted? It's hardly unusual for relatives to want some involvement in these sorts of biopics.

Noomi Rapace was one of the leads in Prometheus.

Right ...

Firstly, you have seriously never 'heard' of Noomi Rapace? She's a brilliant actress.

Secondly; she is a brilliant actress, and they have make up departments. Seriously, this entire 'wrong person for the part' ******** BEFORE seeing a film is pathetic.

Ledger cannot play the joker, Affleck cannot play Batman... blah blah. Actors pretend to be other people, there is far more to a performance than being someone's twin.

Perhaps not unusual but it'd be better to give a writer/director the freedom to tell the story without any interference. I wouldn't want to see a potentially sanitised version.
Rapace is brilliant. I'm not sure we need a film about Winehouse, though. Was the documentary not sufficient?
My thoughts exactly.

im i the only one that thinks rapace is too good looking to play the part... makeup department will have their work cut out to hide her looks and turn her into a drunken, sunken faced drug addled chav. LOL

Actually my mistake, I saw her in Prometheus which was 4 years ago, but didn't remember her and never took note of her name.
I might have seen her in other movies since but don't recall.

Some of the prep she did for girl with a dragon tattoo will help her with this role. Very talented actress.

Surely the better choice would've been Dana DeLorenzo (Kelly from Ash vs Evil Dead).

Shame that the main thread about this potentially interesting movie will forever more start with such an utterly retarded op :D
