Nvidia Shield K1 still the best tablet in terms of price/performance?

after using an ipad for so long, i just cant get used to the shield

the battery drains quite quickly and thats not playing any games.

the touch sensitivity is way off ipad standards, ive had to press links a few types for it to register and never had this issue on the ipad

i guess for the price i cant really complain but having said the above its going back for a refund.

Yeah the overall experience of using the Shield is a bit rubbish BUT
- it can take a huge microsd card which is useful for playing movies on the excellent screen
- game performance is excellent..once the game has loaded)

If they could make it as smooth as the nexus 7 2013 that would be amazing. It is a bit difficult to use but once you have got things up and running it is excellent for the price.

I hate to say it but mine is going back as well. I cant get it to charge over 98% when the tablet is on standby and wifi is on (2A psu). While watching youtube videos the battery lasts no longer than 4 hours and takes over 12 hours to get from 44% - 100% charge when turned off.
Compaired to my nexus 7 2013 its a cracking tablet but not when you take into account the battery life. My nexus will out last the shield three times over when watching videos.

I, as many people, really wanted to like this tablet but its just too big for its boots.

I would say to others wanting the tablet, who have experienced the nexus 7 to steer clear, but i was told that and didnt! Learn by your own mistakes comes into mind.

I'm off to find another tablet...

If yours won't charge to 100% and takes 12 hours to charge half the battery then you've got a dodgy unit or a buggy app.

Mine charges from ~10-15% to full in about 2.5-3 hours on standby with a random charger (I assume a 2A one, but I can check later).

Edit: I can't tell you how long it will last streaming videos as it's something I only do rarely (main use is reading Twitter and playing games on a weekend morning and it will last for days doing this before needing charging).

Your experience mirrors mine. I kept thinking that the reason for the lengthy charge times I was getting was that the tablet was utilising more power than it was pulling in during the charge process. I had nothing to back this up though. Over 12hrs charging for the 3-4hrs of battery life I got was poor.

By comparison my Samsung Tab S8.4 with it's 4900mAh battery takes about 5hrs to charge and gives me about 4-5hrs SoT. It's just a shame it was poorly supported by Samsung in the first place.

The battery life seems ok'ish, I'll probably install a different ROM, ROOT and install Greenify. The battery problem isn't the actual battery, its android and the google services. That's why I installed CM12.1S on my Nexus, the battery before didn't last me a day... I'll have a play with it at some point.

Which is probably 500mA so will take 12hrs+ to charge it.
Get a good 3A charger.
The LG charger is 1.2A, I'll get 3A anyways.

Checked earlier and mine has been off charge since at least the 27th of December (it's hard to tell) and still has 20%. OK, it's barely been used much in that time as I've been using my phone instead, but still!

And the charger I'm using is an old 2A Hudl charger which is charging it quickly.

Which charger would you guys recommend? I've read that some make a high pitched noise at load, my hearing is really good and that would drive me insane...

Wow. Mine was going down like that over 72 hours when not in use. I tried it with 3 different charges, and a mains USB socket. All had the same effect. I even tried using difference usb leads, the one that came with my Cubot phone is probably the best i have ever seen and still got the same poor result.

When did you purchase your Shield? I got mine from amazon at the end of Dec. This was after Nvidia supposedly stopped production for a while. So mine must have been from a new batch, who knows maybe they did actually stop production and the ones that are currently being supplied are just 'new' but refurbished.

Looking at your wakelocks in that pic, yours are absolutely non-existent, which is brilliant. Mine on the otherhand for the K1 was an absolute mess out of the box. I did notice it but the charging issues that I had made me forget about that.

20th April when BT got a small amount in stock.

It does look as though there is a fair bit of difference in batches.

Definitely. I just wish I had taken a screen shot of the battery graph so i could accurately compair.

I was not looking in April, but I noticed Amazon did a few preorders in the middle of November for tablets they were to receive at the start of Dec (of which they sold out very quickly). Then suddenly just after xmas they had loads in stock, and they still have them. When i spoke to OcUK they told me Nvidia were no longer manufacturing them, this seem to match with what people on the Nvidia forum were saying.
I am reading now about the new shield tablet, which has similar specs but lots of new fangled spangly bits.
The tablet is fantastic, with great features. If i had a decent battery i would no way have sent it back.

I too got one for Christmas and I am loving it so far! Charge time is great (I use my Note 4 charger) and performance is sky high in games etc I can't recommend it enough to be honest :)

Stoner81.

What are people's main uses for this? I'd really like to stream my games out of the house but don't think 3G signal from my phones hotshot will cut it.

Will the new Sheild TV controllers be supported?
