EVGA GTX 1070 ftw Stuttering

Having some issues regarding stuttering and up and down gpu usage.

Thought i would have a go at Battlefield Hardline and its stuttering all over the place. When it plays it plays really nice, but only for a few seconds.

Ive done a lot of googling and some suggest drivers, some suggest bad optimization of the game (Hardline) itself. I've installed 3 previous drivers, (376.33, 376.19 and 368.39) currently on the 368.39 which seem better but not as if its resolved the issue.

Happens on all my games i play, BF4, The division, Stranded deep.

Could it be my CPU? A i5 2500k clocked at 4GHz.

I've got 12GB of ram (2x 4GB + 2x 2GB)

I get no crashes just constant lag and stutter. ive tried lowering graphics to low still the same. I've also disable G-sync and still the same.

Any suggestions?

Sorry that screeny isnt much good is it.

Temps around 55c
Ive taken out and swapped round RAM just to be sure of something.

EVGA suggests from another thread based on the 900 series graphics cards to disable audio... thats not it.

Ive now just installed my old 670 and see what happens.

CPU Temps: 57c
CPU Usage: 60-95%
GPU Fluctuates: 5-95%
5.32 Gb Used
Thats on the Heaven Benchmark

Been trying to solve this all day...

if you havnt already make sure nvidia power settings are set to maximum performance, I was getting poor framerates in bf1 until I did this, as card was not boosting

Really?
I must admit I haven't played in a while. But I have been playing The division and I didn't really notice much but it's really bad in Battlefield 4 and Hardline (haven't tried anything else)
Just trying old card and it's no different... so is it save to say it's not:
Both cards
Ram
Hard drives... for now?

I'll have a look about BIOS. I'm pretty sure it's never been updated

Yea I've tried maximum performance, one monitor and some have said to change thread optimisation and pre rendered frames... I've tried it all.

I'm seriously contemplating buying a new drive for windows and a bigger one for games etc as there fairly old and just starting again

You will be looking at psu, ram, CPU, motherboard, windows reinstall, Not much help I know.

I can only think of what are the voltages in msi afterburner.

Hard to tell with so little to go on, but I'd wager it's to do with your mismatched RAM, especially if they're different speeds. Try removing the 2x2GB and see how that goes?

Is your CPU locked to 4Ghz with all c-states turned off? Windows performance set to high performance (as in no frequency-fluctuations)? CPU usage seems abnormally high, especially for a GPU-bound benchmark like Heaven. Can you push your CPU higher?

Cpu doesn't seem stable with the extra ram. With 4gb ram I can get it to 4.5ghz but for longetivity I want to stick with 4ghz. Should be playing absolutely fine.

A shot in the dark but I do hear a buzzing noise... can't work if it's coming from graphics card or psu but I'm. Pretty sure it's the graphics card. Might be me but when it buzzes the gpu usage is fine when the buzzing stops gpu usage goes down??

I've tried both ram together and single in all slots getting same outcome.

Hope motherboard isn't done for... I'm starting to think it's feeling a bit jumpy in windows aswell

Maybe there is more to this than simply not being able to push your CPU to 4.5GHz with the extra RAM installed. Try just taking out those extra sticks and then running Heaven again with no changes at all to previous settings. :)

Heaven shouldn't be pushing a CPU to 95%, more like 15-20%.

That buzzing sound is probably just coil-whine. Definitely something CPU-related. Try benchmarking at 4.5Ghz without the extra ram and see if it helps. Something is not right if you are seeing 90%+ in Heaven (could just be that you haven't turned off all of the c-states and enabled high performance unser Windows' power settings).
