My beloved tin can, ever so reliable Yaris was written off over the holiday period. Luckily the responsible party has admitted liability straight away, so the claims process is moving smoothly.

In terms of next car, I think it is the time to get a Ford Mondeo. I have my eyes on 60/61 reg Mondeo Titanium X Powershifts (petrol), which seem to be a lot of car for the money in terms of gadgets etc, for around 7k. My usage requirements are pretty small; I commute via public transport/cycling, and therefore the car is really for weekends (trips shopping) and the odd longer journey every few weeks at weekend (anything from 60-200 miles). As much as the Yaris was a superb, reliable car, on the motorway it wasn't fun to drive.

Anything need to be wary of?

Thank you - looking at your signature you are the perfect reply!

I found one more or less identical to yours in spec / mileage for just under 9k (maybe this is too much). According to Etis, it has basically every option ticked. FSH and MOT history shows nothing untoward (barring a rear bulb being out).

How do I know if it has A2DP? In etis it shows that it has BT/VC phone interface + USB connect. I was led to believe that if it has USB connect, it supports A2DP

2010 cars onwards will have A2DP. It's the Bluetooth module that provides it.

I got mine a few months after Howard and it's been fine. Had to replace the battery last month, but other than that it had only needed servicing, brakes and tyres.

I'm looking at replacing it because we're supposed to run cars under 6 years old under the terms of our car allowance scheme, but becuase it's in good condition I have been allowed an extension. I suspect that will end shortly though as others have been refused recently because their cars are unreliable sheds by comparison.

I'm looking to get another one, probably a 62 or 13 plate to run for a couple of years.

Yes they seem excellent. What's a rough fair price for a near mint example? (2010, <35k miles, pretty much every option, automatic version, full ford history, no advisories in past MOT barring a lightbulb )

I'd say a 2010 car with Nav and <60k in excellent nick with FSH is worth around £7.5k. Facelift cars with average miles still seem to fetch north of £10k.

Extra options and very low mileage make it more desirable. How much that adds to the value is up to the buyer.

There aren't a huge number of options as the standard spec was high. The most desirable is touchscreen Nav, other options were adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation, electric memory seats, keyless entry, privacy glass, heated rear seats, tyre pressure monitoring and IVDC which is electronically controlled suspension which is very rare.

Why wouldn't the owner just replace the rear Lightbulb, that would be the question in my head.

Because, unfortunately, most people see a car in the same way as you or I see a washing machine. They don't know or care how it works, as long as it works. Once a year they take it for the "big bill" and horror of the service and MOT and hand over a bunch of money to repair what the guy tells them needs fixing. Bulbs, Screenwash and tyres, the easiest things to keep on top of but almost certainly the leading reason for MOT failure in the first 5 or 6 years of a car's life.

*saw mondeo thread, came in to spout Mondy love/geekery, saw that I've been ginger stepchilded in true ocuk motors fashion.

lots of love for the Mk4 mondy on here, in fact I would say I regret chopping my mk4 in for a mk5, utterly wonderful cars, especially in petrol turbo guise.

can't really add anything that hasn't already been covered but would echo the advice of making sure the power shift if serviced regularly, my (albeit oil burner) old mk4 went off service and into retirement at north of 300k miles with a bare minimum of issues, I had a replacement alternator and some rear arms beyond usual wear and tear stuff in that time.

properly engineered and built cars and really do take the miles well.

now get it bought and get some pics up asap

55k miles on it so far, totally fault free not even a bulb so far, although it likes to chew through rain sports in a rapid fashion

updated my thread so you'll see it at the top of motors :)

if it helps the op i paid £6.5 4 months ago for an 09 2.3 durashift model with everything listed there bar the suspension. have to say the best car i have owned regardless of the mid to high 20's mpg

One small thing, last service was 15 months ago / 9k miles. Understand interval is yearly. Is this a problem? I plan to get this taken into account of cost. Receipts look fine otherwise

They are fantastically good cars at the mundane stuff (3 kids, 2 suitcases and a pram, decent toys/nav, vast and solid interior, munches motorway miles with aplomb), and capable when needed, handling and performance wise. Had mine (2008 pre-facelift Tit X hatchback 2.5T with bluefin remap) for just over a year, and can see myself running it for a good few more years.

Turns out the powershift oil hasn't been done but transmission seems smooth, doesn't show any of the symptoms I have seen on YouTube of oil issues. Will see again on Friday. Seller wasn't aware it was required (i believe this is genuine)

Car has had not needed anything changed bar tyres and pads which is good. Deal breaker or bargaining chip on the oil?
