Android: Screen Broke Recovering Photos

Ello,

I broke the screen on my Google Nexus 6P (Huawei), Front glass is fine so its the LCD so there is no image nor does the touch screen work.

I'm contemplating sending the phone to either O2 or getting into contact with Huawei for repairs but I suspect a £200 Bill.

But before I do this I would like to recover all my images as they might wipe the phone resulting in me losing them.

Connecting my phone to the PC doesn't work as it just displays an empty folder as I'm required to select file transfer on the phone to be able to see the content.

I purchased on of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291952407580 hoping that it would enable HDMI to my screen and a mouse, however no image displays on my screen as it states no input.

Any advice would be amazing.

Cheers

could you adb straight into the device or does that require android OS settings (allowing usb debug etc) ?

(Its only a question to try and help, I've only ever used adb a little and with full guides so someone else might be able to help)

Also in future, set google photos to auto back up :)

Ironically about 3 weeks ago I disabled the photos backup as I was trying to sort them all out to start fresh.

I tried to ADB to the device but it doesn't show under listed devices, so I assume it requires Allowing USB Debug Turned on.

you could use an OTG port + usb mouse to fumble about blind until you click the right bits i guess. There's a ton of OTG connectors on amazon for under a fiver if you want to persue this but I can't guarantee results. Bit unsure why the device you bought doesn't work, might be the hardware, might be something on the device or option blocking etc...

Is it only 3 weeks of photos lost? Did you delete them off photos.google.com? Did you check the bin? Do you use dropbox sync as well?

You may be able to boot the phone into Fastboot mode then use an ADB tool to pull files.

It may be difficult going in blind, but here is how to boot into fastboot. This should hopefully make it accessible over ADB

You may then be able to use the Nexus Root Toolkit advanced utilities to Pull files (or Commandlink ADB, but i like the GUI). I think the default path for photos should be "sdcard/DCIM" or "sdcard/DCIM/camera".

Sadly the 6P doesn't support MHL/Slimport like the previous Nexus phones so a wired display won't work.

As above I would try it via fastboot, but it may be tricky as you can't see on the screen if it's in the right mode.

Sorry, I wasn't getting notifications for this thread for some reason.

A Wired display wont work ? thats a shame. I purchased a OTG device with USB and HDMI but doesn't work on my phone or the misses Huawei P9.

I did try the Fastboot / ADB but with no luck. I guess I might be out of look and left with the only option of a pricey repair.

Thanks for your helps.
