Potential new car - BMW 116i M Sport

Professional navigation and Xenon headlights.
Ill be honest I've driven the 116i and it is rather underpowered.
The 120 however is a very nice medium if you can stretch to it and is still decent in terms of fuel economy.
My partner is on a BMW/Alphabet company car scheme and gets a lot of Minis and 1 Series BMW cars so we've had the experience of most of the range by now.
Have you considered a modern used junior hot hatch for that budget? Youll get over 40Mpg in some of them even commuting and they all sit at the 180-230bhp mark. The Mini Cooper S is a depreciator and you could pick up a decent one for £14000

If you've managed ok with your 88bhp Astra, I honestly would be surprised if you didn't find a 116i to be quick enough.
When I was looking to buy an F20 in 2013 the list price difference between a 116i and 118i was £2k. I guess for most people it was too much for an extra 40bhp.
People sometimes just want something better than walking.
Reminds me off when I have to buy a car for the wife, it really doesn't matter what it is as long as it has shiny wheels a nice radio and isn't French.
In this case, the 116i in question isn't the worse car in the world, it's also not the bus, so win win.
