AGM battery replacement - or maybe not, who knows what's wrong with it

How can you say that on a used car? The battery could have been left to go flat by the previous owner and sulphated the plates....

Can't blame the battery unless you 100% know the history.

Jump starting it without using the chassis ground can then also cause issues with the BMS calibration. So the 'abuse' is abused further.

Dealer just called, they now think it's an ABS sensor which is warranty :p

Along with the usual pads 90% worn etc (last time they told me that on XKR the warning light came on 30k miles later)

What is the issue if they don't know if its the battery or an ABS sensor? ABS not working..? Surely if the ABS isn't working and it was down to a battery issue, there would be other issues too? :p

That might be a result :)

Pads 90% worn standard story - they are all at it!

yes, its throwing up all sorts of odd errors and dealer has suggested battery maybe cause, will find out tomorrow

the main battery cranks the engine on initial start and runs rest of car and the lithium battery does the stop/start (which I usually don't have on)

the programming looks a pain and night tie me to main dealer by look of it :(

I tried this with the Discovery as that needed a new AGM battery. I bought one from the dealer but it did need coding. I have Mongoose though and it was a complete breeze (so much better than INPA / E-SYS for the BMW) It's all wizard based (ie, New Battery? Click Next, etc) :D

Yeah the BMW systems are an absolute beast to tame - or code even - especially as it is mostly in German. VCDS for VAG cars is a million times easier to use etc. I suspect Carly is the same for BMW/Merc from the YouTube videos I have seen.

they have prob got a code from diag machine

errors were

ABS fault
Stability Control not available
Adaptive dynamics fault
Park Brake fault
Emergency brake assist not available

I think you would hope at this point it is the battery lol

Thankfully you have a warranty!

I did panic when they all came up at once

though not as much as I panicked halfway through a wet bend when I realised they were not "spurious" errors

I bet an F-type (without stability control) is similar to the M3 mid wet bend in M-mode traction control... rapid decompression in pants is inevitable :D

I thought the XK batteries were a pain until I assembled these buggers.
Must have been about 20 different steps in the process of sub assembly prior to fitting to the car (if it's the boot mounted one)
Then there was fitting the power assisted tailgate on the coupe, that was fun:eek::eek::eek:

they changed the sensor and it didn't fix it, diagnostics still say it's the sensor though :p

going on hol on Monday till 25th so just leaving it with them

They thought it was a battery fault from that, on a car that isn't even 4 years old??

That screams ABS/DSC system fault to me, possibly steering angle sensor or wheel speed sensor. Because so many systems rely on wheel speed/steering sensor data, when the sensor fails - loadsss of systems have to disable themselves because the data is now unreliable/unavailable - hence the plethora of fault codes for what might be just one sensor.

TBH Jags are famous for throwing up all sorts of errors due to battery issues but I thought same as you as they are all related

The cynic in me suggests they realised you were umming and arring about ponying up for the battery so thought they'd screw a bit of money out of the warranty first. Dealers love a bit of warranty work.
