You're right. And it was what I was inarticulately trying to say, I missed out the committed by x person though.
 
Change the link to BUSTED HAHA!

Then change the link address to a text file which says "We have recorded all your sick activities and cloned your hard drive which is currently being inspected by the police. Have a wonderful day :)"

Then report him and leave it at that.
 
Give 101 a call and speak to them, they might send someone around to look and it could all be innocent, or it could be he is a pedophile after all.

I would've thought you'd need something more substantial than that for anything to be investigated.

It's like having a torrent file labelled "GoT S1E1". You assume this Torrent file will download or has downloaded Episode 1 of Game of Thrones, yet it could be anything.

Hindsight would say more information should've been gathered (just the URL would've sufficed). I would maybe mention it to the Police, but stipulate that it was just the name of a file, you know not of the content.

Isn't intent enough with this sort of thing though? Take for example a person sending texts to someone to meet up to do whatever. The person then gets arrested for it. They haven't actually done anything as yet but the intent was enough for them to be arrested. Maybe I'm simplifying it too much?
 
give the police a call and see what they say, better to be safe and know you done the right thing.

If your customer has done nothing wrong then he will have nothing to worry about

From someone that performs forensic investigations as part of his day job my advice is do not do this. Contact the police straight away, they will take down the information you have provided. Do not attempt to view/follow any links, you aren't trained to deal with this type of scenario and you could be commiting an offense yourself.

I would speak with your colleague to identify if you have taken a backup of anything. If you have, do not touch it but also advise the police you have backed up some data and you are unsure as to the contents.

The important thing is you stop what you are doing and report it. I would also suggest documenting what has happened/what was seen/what was done and keep a log of it somewhere.

from what i read, you'll need a special browser to access to the dark web

Not a nice situation!

I'd have probably right clicked and checked the address in properties to see where it points, from there you could have searched for the name and something like when will xx be shutdown, see if that brings up any articles from campaign groups about it maybe. I certainly wouldn't want to be clicking on the link though. Could even just be a link to ransom ware or something!.:eek:
 
I think there's a high probability that it's just a bit of a sick prank or maybe his wife is out to destroy him for cheating or something? I'd be wary about doing anything to be honest, it just seems way too obvious it's like whoever put it there wanted you to find it. Turning a blind eye is maybe the best policy? if he's guilty and that stupid it shouldn't be long before his house gets raided.

Chrome is just a way of displaying HTTP - you can point it at any IP:PORT and it will display stuff if sent valid data - some methods of accessing information outside of the normal WWW will just be a proxy on your system that talks to another host and pushes that back to the browser on a local IP:PORT.
 
I had the same happen to me at work. I reported it to my managers and we took it to the Police. I had to give statements etc and was told I were due in court. Then I got a letter from the CPS stating all charges were dropped. ****** got away with it :mad:

I don't know if a few txts will do it, but those paedophile hunters generally get them arrested pending further investigation. Quite a few have been charged as well - but it doesn't seem 100%.
