Somewhat change of direction but what would you do if it was clear or you had suspicion that the customer was committing other offences, like copyright infringement in the way of a huge library of movies which were clearly downloaded from the Internet? Interested on where you'd draw the line of an offence being acceptable or not.

I may be wrong but possessing a movie file isn't illegal. Sharing it is where you are breaking the law.

While I would never look at anything like that, I do visit sites like 4 chan and would dread to think what images are lurking on my ssd. It's mad to think I could probably end up jailed and my life ruined if a nosey repair dude started looking through my pc. One reason i'd never even dream of sending my pc for repair.

if you are saying there are illegal pictures on 4chan and hence cached on your pc, perhaps you shouldn't visit 4chan?

Afterall thats only one step away from a pedo having visited a site showing underage children having sex and saying "sorry, my browser cache picked them up by msitake when i was looking for something else"

Depends how he was accessing it i.e. using his browser via an encrypted proxy ostensibly wouldn't be logged at ISP level.

what's to stop someone renaming any file to something iffy and uploading it. You could put the url to say a driver download but your download cache and history (and isp logs) would save the dodgy filename.

I hardly do any more and you're probably right about avoiding it altogether. Its very rare there is anything like that posted, but the manga cartoon images mentioned above are impossible to avoid.

Isn't that a bit silly? Why wouldn't you do everything offline?

Do you not understand how remote sessions work? Have you never used GotoAssist or Logmein? You do not physically have the computer on your network, you connect remotely and without any risks.

Chrome is used by the customer to get connected to our service via a portal. The shortcut was a favourite, clearly displayed in the bookmarks bar.
