Low ASIC score with AMD cards...

Is it true that a lower ASIC quality score on an AMD based GPU is actually better? I bought a 4GB Sapphire Nitro RX 470 for my daughters PC and the ASIC score is just 57%... I thought this was quite low (bad). Does it mean it'll run hotter and consume more power at stock clocks than one with a higher ASIC score?

Just asking out of curiosity really.

idk what is going on with the asic for amd. for nvidia its is clear that higher cards are better, but i have found some amd cards with low asic clock well and other needs a custom bios to run 50mhz over stock, while high asic cards overclock badly, but use no more power than lower ones. i would just ignore it for amd cards tbh and just see how well it performs by testing it.

It appears to perform quite well and the core temp seems to max out at 75C which is perfectly fine... It would also be pretty quiet at that temperature too if it wasn't for a dodgy vibrating/rattling fan!

How about returning the card?. I'm sure the design didn't have that feature on completion ;).

I feel it doesnt matter too much. I dont know about Nvidia but i have had 3 hawaii chips (290, 290windforce and 390 g1 gaming.) my 290 windforce was a 76% asic and went to 1100 happily(didnt push further) and my g1 is 81% and wont push past its base of 1025(i think that base) but any further is artefacts. Just try the oc if you want and seee if its good.

The replacement has an ASIC score of 54.5% which is even lower! At least the fans are quiet though. If a higher ASIC was better for AMD cards then surely Sapphire would be using them for their Nitro OC range?

well as long at it works at stock settings i dont think they will even check the asic. 54% is very very lower though.
