Oh look, a large rectangle shaped blocked area exactly the same size as one of the thermal pads they shipped out as they didn't get it right in the first place. They then didn't admit to vrm temps being a problem, yet feel the need to redesign the cooler and under different branding :D

How cynical. ;)

It's a shame that they ballsed up the first design and now have to release a mk2 so early and without any reason other than to correct their error and make mk1 cards worthless.

It's good to see that they have acknowledged there was an issue and built new models.
It shows that they care about the brands image and the quality of the products they sell.

What would be nicer still is if they now offered the people with the old model a chance to step up to the new one with just a small fee added.

I like the look of the cards.

Worthless ?

The mk1 cards are far from worthless, but their resale value will certainly now be reduced even further.

I am so glad i managed to get a full refund on my 1080 FTW. This "revision" to me certainly confirms that there was a problem with their design in the first place.

I hope they dont make the same mistake again for the next series because EVGA is pretty much king with watercooling nod support, CS, warranty and all that.

Odd mistake to make, not bothering to apply decent cooling to the VRMs and not making sure that memory chips make proper contact with thermal pads.

Even I know that GPUs and VRMs get hot, and that the heatsink design needs to ensure that these components are kept as cool as possible.

OK, the VRMs may have been operating within specified limits, but if you want maximum reliability you want temperatures to be kept as low as possible.

They look good! It's just a shame they slipped up in the first place :(

Odd mistake to make

It's pretty damming tbh considering they mucked up the cooler the second time in consecutive series, they handed out free backplates last time and redesigned the cooler, then rinsed and repeated except it was sticky pads instead of a backplate.:p

When Nvidia decide to eat in to your profit margin by jacking up prices across the board for Pascal, AIB partners will look for anyway they can to get back some of that profit.

..turns out that EVGA chose the wrong area in which to do it and it bit them hard.

Wrong place to cut corners when they charge a decent premium for their 'quality' and 'overclocker friendly' products and have now suffered reputational damage because of it. MIstakes happen but this shouldn't have. I'll continue to buy their products though as I'm sure they've learned from their mistake and I tend to keep to reference cards anyway

Well with pascal being power efficient they probs thought the VRMS dont need to work so hard and thus dont need sticky pads to help dissipate the heat. :p

It will have had a knock on EVGA's Rep so hopefully they get them selfs back on track. Probs why they have released new coolers/cards but bit late in the pascal gen now.

To be fair, I'm still really pleased with mine. I think it looks decent, it clocks well, has no coil whine and the build quality is good. Pleased with the temperatures now I've upgraded the core TIM as well. I'm confident the vrm pads and memory pads are all contacting and helping temperatures as I did the work for them in fitting them :o
