Hi all,

I recently bought a new laptop HP Pavilion 15-ab269sa - came with Windows 10. I then cloned the disk as I bought a new SSD for it.

Working perfect apart from I hate windows 10 and it won't install a USB driver for my home theatre room correction microphone.

Can I downgrade to Windows 7?

I don't fully understand why I had to clone the disk when switching to a SSD. Is this because of how Windows 10 works or some other reason like my BIOS is stored on the disk?

Its Windows, its essentially been the same for years and years, whats to hate.

You can just tweak 10 and its similar to 7.

I hate that I have a simple USB device that just refuses to work under Windows 10. The only reason I have this laptop is for my bloody room correction software.

It is a Professional version of Windows 10?

I am not sure I would recommend downgrading Windows unless you really have to.

Because Windows is stored on the hard drive.

Not really, there are quite a few differences over the years that have been applied to Windows, mostly improvements, but sometimes things get broken (legacy apps or hardware for example) or they change Windows Update feature.

Hi.

It is Windows 10 home.

I realise Windows is stored on the HDD lol but why wouldn't my laptop allow me to install Windows 10 onto my fresh new SSD?

Not sure if I can install W7 on my laptop due to the problems installing W10 on my laptop.

I'm guessing I had to clone my SDD with my HDD because my laptop didn't allow me to chose my SSD as the install drive.

I can't remember what the error message was when trying to fresh install W10 onto the SSD - but when I googled it I found endless amounts of guides showing how to clone the drives to make it work.

I've now been out and bought a USB hub (a decent one at that) and the mic drivers still won't function on W10.

Damn and blast!!

Update:

Downgraded laptop to Win7 x64 and everything is good. Took a while to get NIC drivers working but after that it was all straight forward.

Makes you realise how bloated Win10 is - it wasn't slow with the SSD by any means but Win7 is twice as fast.

Happy days.

Something was wrong with the install or the disk/drivers in that case as Win10 is quicker than 7.
