I've borked the screen on my Note 3. I've got a new one arriving tomorrow but I can't unlock my current one as I can't activate the screen, which means all my photos, music, the lot is all gone. Short of buying a new screen (£90), is there any way I can pull my stuff off this one?

If not I'll find a cheapo screen somewhere, maybe a used phone on Gumtree or something.

Depends on what's broken, but if it's just the screen you could try loading the adlib drivers onto a computer which should allow you to control the phone there.

I can't unlock the phone, hence why I can't connect it. If I connect it to a PC it shows up, but won't show me the contents. I *think* the rest of the phone is fine, all the lights come on and whatnot so I suspect it actually works fine but I can't see anything.

Could be worth seeing if someone has got a HDMI adaptor to connect it to a monitor? Could be that the touch screen works fine, just the underlying LCD screen is borked?

No clue other than that, though :(

That's a great idea, although if the touch screen is borked I won't be able to enter the code as I don't have an HDMI screen with touch functionality :p

I'll hook it up and see what happens first.

Worse case your phone has probably backed up all your photos to your Google account, check http://photos.google.com/.

Can you see anything on the screen at all or is it completely dead? If you can see the screen a USB OTG cable as above may work, they're ~£1 off eBay.

Sadly nothing is backed up, I didn't even know that Google Photos was a think

Hopefully the new one arrives today. I'll disassemble the new one and swap the PCB over temporarily to get all my stuff off of it.

It's not the ideal solution but it looks like it's the only (inexpensive) option I have. Thanks for the help guys :)

That would be too easy I guess.

Was "Find My Mobile" turned on? IIRC you can unlock it remotely.

Or if you can see the screen something like this could potentially work;

Plug in usb mouse unlock phone.

(Sorry I know you say you can't activate it but I've never used a note 3 not sure if you need the touchscreen to turn it on or not)

The phone turns on fine, but the screen is completely dead, not even a small flicker of light.

Screw it, I'll butcher the new one and use that, thanks for the help anyway dude :)

"Sorry we don't have that phone any more"

Meh. I opted for an LG G4 instead, so this removes any possibility of removing my data from the Note 3. Oh well, I shall rebuild :(
