Hello, wonder if anyone could help? I've asked employer but guessed I'd get a quicker answer here.

I get 20 days holiday + bank hols.

Holiday year is April - April and I started on the 14th November.

According to gov website I've acrued 13 days between Nov 14 and April.

Is that correct?
 
Assuming 1st April you will have accrued 7.69 days so rounded up to 8 days.

A lot depends on your contract and how they count the bank holidays.

In my company you get 20 days plus the bank holidays so you accrue 1.66 days per month as the company isnt open on the bank holidays.

I assume you got paid for Christmas BH?

By April you would have worked 5 months = 8 days (assuming counting November) + bank hols (2 @ Xmas 2016, 1 @ New Year)

Total = 11
 
Of course if you work for a company where you are given the bank holidays and have to book them off as the place is open then you will have accrued 10.76 which is then rounded up to 11 days.

Strange to round down from 1.67 to 1.6 rather than 1.7, and to not use 4.5 months.

Don't include the bank hols as 'accrual', that just confuses things. Everyone gets those days regardless of how long you've worked and they are treated differently to Annual Leave balances and allowances

20 days in 12 months = 1.67 days/month = 7.5days/4.5months.

So your answer is 7.5 days, then up to your employer as to if they round up or down or just leave as a half day.
 
20 days sucks.

30 days here, plus bank holidays, plus office is closed over christmas and new year....

We are both probably wrong anyhow, they most likely only count full months + full days = 7 :)
 
You do realize millions of UK employees just get the basic amount?

Won't lie I went ouch reading the OP all the same - I got 37 days not including bank holidays this coming holiday year. (had to double check when I read the letter but apparently additional holiday days for length of service scale up with other factors/bonuses which I'd hit).

You'll just to have to ask your employer. They may be accrued monthly, hourly or annually. I'm surprised you can't just look and find out how many days you've got. How do you apply for time off?

Our employees get one extra day for every 10 years worked. We do have a few employees on 24 days plus 8 days bank holiday now plus one on 25 days.
 
Pretty sure some employers only count full months, so November may not be counted (no idea if this is actually legal however!)

My previous employer had some bonkers system where you had to have worked up until at least the 24th of any month to accrue the holiday for it. When I left it resulted in the somewhat farcical situation of me being better off agreeing an official leaving date later than when I actually left the company and booking those extra days as holiday, because it meant I got an extra 2 days payment in lieu of untaken holiday.

Literally no difference in terms of the days I spent at work compared to had I formally left on the 19th instead of 24th, it just meant they had to pay me more money when I left.

I started on 26 days + 8 bank holidays - one of the few perks of working where I do is they are generous for holidays and break times. 10 year service award bumps it up another 5 days.
