i5 6500

Hi all,

I've searched through the forums and found different answers so I thought I would post.

I'm trying to overclock an I5 6500 on an MSI Z170 A Pro motherboard. I've seen that this support was stopped but I've since seen that you can still do it with older BIOS versions.

Has anyone tried this recently? If so, do you know the BIOS version that is required?

That is fantastic numbers mate. You on water cooling?

Looks like I may need to buy better RAM though. My RAM is Crucial Ballistix 2400. Most RAM in these guides use at least 3000.

I'll have a go tonight.

High speed ram won't improve your overclock. In fact it might make it worse

Thanks for the advice folks.

I've got it @ 4.3ghz and it is stable after an hour of Prime 95. I'll game for a bit to see how it goes.

I'll then run Prime over night.
