I need to remove the shower taps (not a power shower, just a mixer tap) to fix a leak, but am not sure what I need to do to turn off the hot water supply.

I've got a Vailliant boiler, which controls the DHW and heating, but also a water cylinder in the airing cupboard.

Any ideas what I need to turn off to kill the supply to the shower? If I turn off the mains cold and the boiler (power it down) will that be enough? Or will I need to isolate / drain the water cylinder?

Sorry for the noddy question!! Thanks for your help.

You should just need to isolate the output of the cylinder to shut off all hot water, and then isolate the mains to kill the cold.

:edit: worth bearing in mind that I hate plumbing and - as I made reminded myself today - I am not very good at it :o

So am I correct in thinking because I have a cylinder the hot water is supplied from that, and the boiler simply tops it up as I use it? Hot water doesn't flow directly from the boiler to the taps?

That sounds right to me, unless you have some weird system. You could just give it a go, and see if you end up with no output at the bath taps, nothing to lose!

Yeah, sadly the shower tap units connects straight to the pipes poking out of the wall... Thanks builders!! ;)

Though for some reason the sink in the downstairs cloakroom do have isolator a on.... No logic ....

You would shut off the outlet from the cold storage in attic if you have one, you might have 2 outlets from storage, 1 feeding cylinder for hot water and 1 supplying cold water only.
