Went looking to replace the wife's Ibiza Cupra today, as it's turned 3 and the PCP has a few months left to run.... as her car will become our "distance" car, looking at diesel, plus she only will have auto now after loving the DSG in the Cupra....
Found a few nice looking A3 184 TDI S-Line 3dr DSG online, .... round the 18k ... local dealer didn't have but we went to look to see if the A3 appealed.... sadly, despite wife always wanting an Audi she didn't like it much... boring, old looking, mum'sy car, no wow or flair... nice finish inside but noubt else.... and that was a brand new one in the show room!!!

Now we don't need rear seats, so looked at the coupe TT... which actually has a useful size boot and is quite nice and bit more "interesting"..... so looking at a TDI auto, coupe, tomorrow... will see how that fairs.....
Looked at Mini... I hated it, quality of panel fit, and interior plastic was crap... flimsy trim...( how dare people moan about Ford!!!!)...
BMW next... 2 series too big for the wife, I quite liked it....(though disappointed to see inside an M2 how same it looked to a normal one) ...she couldn't warm to the 1 series... felt the brand was too posh/snobby and intermediating and not for her!!! ... an older 1 series saloon/coupe might interest if we go a different route and want a cheaper runabout option.

If the TT doesn't work out, I can see us back at the SEAT dealer asking for a Leon FR SC 184 TDI DSG .....
Is it me or are many cars becoming quite boring these days?

And we didn't get to drive any yet.... so it was irrelevant to our comments.... for sure the interest could diminish further when driving...... we have other fun cars

Lol at BMW being posh/snobby. But I suppose you can't really debate with females and their irrational opinions when it comes to cars sometimes.

TT diesel doesn't quite make sense to me especially as a 'distance' car. All the downfalls of a sports car but with the absence of a sports car engine. A3 saloon? Scirocco?

So sorry I must type long hand, on an iPad rather than in short chat form. Whatever!

Agree women logic does throw you at times. For us, no kids, TT/Sports isn't really any short comings. We looked at a Scirroco I liked it but wife was put off with very high boot sill and the long doors.
A3 saloon no different to hatch and offers no benefits.

The Leon does have a bit of Spanish flair compared to the Germanic A3.
It's possible I guess in true female shopping habits we will end up back at the start buying the first thing we looked at .. LOL

You are looking at boring cars, boring cars have always been boring.
Boring cars mostly made by the same group sharing similar design ideas and components. I think Audi lets a lot of people down as they have sold themselves as a premium brand but something like an a3 is pretty dull.

If you want something a bit more plush I would widen your search a bit

should have heard the BS the sales guy was coming out with to another customer..... "Audi doesn't make a cheap car.... they just build an Audi.."

Yes looking at various scenarios.

Polo GTi to stay with small hot hatch, seems VW kept the DSG box away from SEAT on the latest Ibiza Cupra and only put it in the Polo with the newer 1.8 Turbo engine. Cupra is manual only now. Impressive mpg figures for a petrol if you believe the numbers!
