Moved into a 2 bathroom place - but only 1 toilet working - compensation?

People who have only ever rented have never had to deal with tradesman. This is why they have this naive belief that plumbers are sitting in the house waiting for a phone call so they can rush around and fix their second toilet for 50 quid.

Wait... What..?... People actually have to wait for things?... Even in London? Gtfo!. My Daddy never had to poo downstairs!

I've never had a problem getting a plumber at short notice in London. I can understand the landlord wanting to wait for someone they know/trust though.

Why are people of the opinion that renting a house with one toilet out of action is acceptable and to just get over it?

Maybe compensation is not the way to go, but neither is just putting up with it.

He's not putting up with it, he's informed the landlord who has given him a date it will be fixed by.

He has reported it and the landlord has took steps fix it.

Who said anything about putting up with it.

We just said going for compensation from a guy who has been reasonable is ridiculous!

The landlord has taken steps to have the toilet fixed, what exactly is the OP putting up with? It is going to be fixed, he only needs to put up with waiting until it is fixed, there is another toilet that can be used, so what is the problem?

I wonder how you would have coped if you lived in the 60\70s when it was common for a house to have an outside toilet, none inside.

People these days, **********

Maybe just fix it yourself ? It's a toilet not a nuclear power plant.

Its not his duty to fix it, he paid for a flat and if the flat is not in the order it should be, why should he not be given compensation. It is the landlords duty for repairs etc.... therefore there should be a discount for rent until he fixes it no if no buts. Would the landlord not complain the he paid less for a month? the landlord would want all his money no if or butt. So yes he should be awarded compensation.

Seeing as the OP isn't living in the 1960s and paying 1960s rent, I am not sure how that is relevant at all.

If I was accustomed to using inside toilets and was used to an en-suite, then taking those things away would be irritating, yes.

If I was paying to rent a house with a functioning en-suite bathroom then I wouldn't be too pleased if that wasn't the case.

If I had grown up with using an outdoor toilet then I would probably cope just fine with it.

Did you craft your entire post around the closing sentence?

How much discount do you suggest? The main reason he should not be given compensation is that it's almost certainly not in his tenancy agreement.

Christ, how much more crap are you going to spout to try to have an argument haha,

I really don't care, it is a thread about a BOG, woo hoo, stop being mard :)

Not sorted in ~1 month is extracting the urine, tell landlord you want a day's rent as compensation for each day it has not been fixed. Landlord wants to sort things out themselves by not paying letting agent fees, but then thinks it's ok to not sort while they enjoy their holiday.

Extracting the urine!
