2nd Hand Car Suggestions

Nice honda accord, or even a 1.6 honda civic? Can get an 04 plate just over £1k.

I'm in the process of doing my HGV, so will need a car to get me to work and back. Either that or a focus 1.6.

1st time in this part of OCUK forums and I saw this thread, thought i'd chime in.

For literally a run around I recommend a Mk1 Yaris, not the fastest, not the best looking but it is very very reliable. I personally now on a Mk2 Yaris and I came from a 1.4L Petrol Mk1, absolutely rock solid, before part exchanging it, it was on around 160k miles and absolutely nothing wrong with the engine.

Mk1 focus (watch for rust, coil springs snap, but strong reliable busses)
Mk4/5 astra - seen plenty of 1.6 reimport mk5 3 doors that look sporty enough for sub grand. Pretty much faultless.
Mk4 golf - boring, but reliable. Watch for rust.
Vectra - they wouldn't be taxis if they weren't reliable, would they? 1.9s can be troublesome with dmf and turbo, a 1.8 (non vvti) petrol will go to the moon and back without a hitch.
Honda civic - 1.6 ep2 sport. Watch for clutch release bearings and gearbox issues. Can be expensive. Nice cars though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Confirmed yesterday that we are indeed moving to Chichester and we'll be moved by the end of February so now is the time to start properly looking.

I've looked for cars around 35 miles for my location and nothing has jumpted out at me yet.

Seeing a lot of Corsa's and Clio's but not sure how reliable they are? I'd be much happier getting a Fiesta.

Nothing wrong with diesel Škodas...!!

For fairly maintenance-free, I'd look at old Mercs. Absolute tanks, many with decent features (considered luxury back then, perhaps, but fairly standard now), will do moon miles and back. Should be able to find a reasonable one for under £750.

Corsa, not so reliable, unless you have access to friendly and sympathetic mechanics.
Golf mk4s - Reliable-ish, but consequently at this age more likely to be heavily ragged and abused, or kevved up and fiddled with.

Vectra, Focus, Octavia, Audi A4 maybe. Taxi type vehicles which, as mentioned above, are taxis and workhorses for a reason.
Sadly, I can't recommend a Vauxhall Ashtray, having had several as work vehicles and hated them.
