Who was at fault here?

Basically the van is very badly parked, he is over the dropped kerb. The cyclists were on the pavement, they moved onto the road to get around the van. I was looking right and waiting for a truck, else I think I would have hit him.

You need to ask?

The bikes 100%. If they plan to use the road, which is fine, then they need to use road rules, which include the side we drive/ride on!

Looked more like cyclist almost hit you. Don't think anyone was really at fault as such though I'd have certainly approached that situation with a bit more caution if I was on the bike.

Well he did shake his head as if it was my fault.

At least I'd have had the damage on camera :)

Surely you would be at fault - you're exiting a minor road (so it looks), the cyclists are on the major road, so you give way to them.

From the angles, there's no sign they just jumped off the pavement. Unless I've missed something?

It's quite clear they've cut the corner and have been riding down the wrong side of the road.

Hmm maybe, but rather than turning into the junction when they've actually got to the junction, you can see the first cyclist is already on the wrong side of the road, and the second cyclist you can see already moving over way before the junction.

If that cyclist was a car instead, i'd still be moaning about them now being a bad driver.

EDIT: Either way, it's just the cyclist being lazy.

If it were a car, they can't see round the van so they should have remained on their side of the road until they could see around the van to make sure it was clear then turned. It shouldn't be any different for a bike!

They had been on the pavement before, then used one of the drops on the main road and cycled on the wrong side of the road, in the video you can see them veer across in front of me to get back up the drop to my right, they then went back onto the pavement again.

He didn't actually pull out of the close though did he? Stopped on the line unless the camera is deceiving.

Well, no. But there was no "fault" since nothing actually happened. I guess we're considering who would have been at fault if there had been an incident.

Don't really get this.

Make a thread about something that almost happened, but didn't, and get everyone to speculate on who's fault it would be, but nothing actually happened.

I reckon it would have been the cat up the road that caused them to swerve round the sinkhole in the road and they would have bunny hopped over the bonnet of your car and continued.

Are you blind? They're both on the wrong side of the road.

If any blame was to be assigned it would be with the cyclists.

Its just one of the many near misses that happen on our suburban streets every day.

Perfect scenario, white van dumped on the corner and kids on bike whizzing down the wrong side of the road.
