Hi,

Anyone looking at going to this in August? Madness already announced for the friday evening. Also looking at hotels/air bnbs if anyone has any good recommendations they are welcome :)

I'm going, been the last 3 years and I think it is very good VFM although they are hiking the prices year on year. You'll have missed the boat on tier 1 early bird tickets but still not that expensive.
Bear in mind the Friday night thing hasn't been done before so not sure how good it will be.
If you have kids the Kids Arena is exceptional and arguably worth the entrance money on it's own. If you don't then the good news is lots of parents will take their kids there out of your way :)
I think it is highly likely that Rhythm of the 90s will play again (local covers band) who are great entertainment. Overall you'd have to be really unlucky not to find a few bands you like when the line-up in announced, as I say despite being cheap they get reasonable bands playing.
Venue is decent, you get a bit of distortion from winds coming off the see on some stages but you can easily walk around the whole site.

Bear in mind officially you can't bring alcohol in so if you want to drink you'll need to bring plenty of cash but that's seemingly the same for most festivals these days part from Glasto.

Yeah I've got a couple of mates who went last year who said Noel Gallagher was really good. Im sure they'll be something I enjoy, and Madness already announced for the friday which is decent.

Looks like we're gonna book the Holiday Inn Portsmouth Gumwharf Quays, that should do us nicely.

And yeah, doubt we'll be drinking much there anyway ;)

As someone who has been to a few and lives in Portsmouth. I wouldn't bother, it's crap. Stall are rubbish, bars are always way to rammed and they turn the final and best acts volume down because of noise pollution to the residents of Southsea.#

If you going to stay in a hotel. Stay in the Holiday Inn on Southsea seafront. It's right next door to all the Southsea bars / Gunwharf and the festival.

657 hasn't been a thing for about 15 years. It's just chavvy.
This festival is full of hipsters though. Not enough jungle for the loons.

2015 was bad for queues at the bar but last year not so much IMO. Definitely no worse than what you find at standard gigs, football etc, you get the odd bar that is rammed but I don't remember having to wait that long to get served.

Sound for Noel Gallagher was a bit off last year (too quiet vox as you say) however part of the problems is the wind coming in off the sea, I found it was better if you were to right side (when facing the stage) i.e. inland the sound quality was improved somewhat.

I still think it is good value, tickets basically cost less or the same than what you play to see a single gig from a B-list band and transport in and out is fairly painless. I'd rank it above IOW at least.
