Hi all,

I have a choice of two graphics cards to keep for my main rig for the time being (yes I am a bit of a cheapskate):

An EVGA 780ti 3GB Classified and a Sapphire R9 290X 4GB Vapor-X

These are both beasts from a couple of generations back, and both appear to have about the same resale value if I were to sell them on now.

So, for equal value, which one is likely to serve me best over the next 6 months or so?

I game at 1440P, and it will be paired with an equally cheapskatey i5 2500k @ 4.6GHz.

Thoughts on this one?

You have both cards run some benches and see what performs best? I'd take the 290x for 1440p more Vram and the Ti is forgotten about now whereas the 290x still has a bit of life in it :)

290x all day long, I have the 290 and it's still smashing everything I play, AMD really keep there older GPU's alive longer with driver support, where's as NVIDIA are well known to 'gimp' there older cards.

290x - now faster than 780ti; more ram; far better DX 12/Vulcan support - honestly better drivers with win 10....depending on the model you can up the core a bit push it near/equal to 980

I'd sell the 780ti asap if it was me, With the 290x using the same chip as the 390x support will last longer, Nvidia don't gimp but they do ignore older gen cards when it comes to optimising for new game releases, The reason AMD cards have been doing well with age is because they all share a common tech, ie GCN. With the release of NCU that may all change in the next few years but for now I think the 290x is the better choice.
